Warm Up: 1 Man 1 Ball • All Players line up on side lines with a ball. • Teach kids how to pick up stick correctly (first 2 practices). • Walk kids through scooping ground ball. • Top hand on neck. • Keep both butts low. • On the whistle kids scoop right handed and run to the coaches. Coaches step back 10 yards. • Repeat across the field. • Repeat process coming back left handed. • After they complete ground balls demonstrate cradle technique. • In the whistle kids run across the field cradling right handed. • Stop at other sideline. • Repeat coming back in left hand. Partner Passing or Knee Passing • P1 starts with 5 or 6 balls. He is kneeling on one knee. One ball at a time he passes to P2 (who is standing). • P2 catches all the balls and drops them at his feet. • P2 then kneels down on one knee, and passes all the balls to P1. • Points of Emphasis: • Hands need to be above their shoulders • Kiss their shoulder • Rotate their torso. • If they don’t do drill properly they will never reach their target. Start at 15 yards apart, as they get better stretch to 25 yards apart. P1 P2 P1 P2 P1 P2 Only difference is I have player catching standing up. 15 yds.
3 or 4 Man Line Drills • Very high rep drill. Each cone demonstrates a different drill out of this formation. The Drill is continuous. • - Each Drill should be done Right and Left handed. • - Each Drill should be done for 90– 120 seconds • - If you what more conditioning increase the distance 1 • Curl & Pass: P1 sprints to cone, curls and passes back to P2 who repeats • Backpedal Pass: P1 sprint to cone, turns to backpedal and passes to P2 who repeat 3. GB Drill : P2 rolls ball out, P1 sprints scoops up ball ,continues to run out 7-10 yards curls and passes ball to P3. P3 then rolls ball for P2 • Over the Shoulder: P1 does C curl, P2 passes the ball to P1. P1 passes the ball to P3, and the drill continues. P3 P2 P1 2 P1 P3 P2 3 P3 P1 P2 4 P1 P2 P3 7- 15 yards
Station - “W” or “Zipper” Drill • Each Player in line has a ball. • At each cone they perform a split dodge (most used dodge in lacrosse). • When they master split dodge, change to roll dodge. • Finish with a hard left handed shot. • When each player goes through line, reverse direction , finishing with right handed shot. Objectives: • Comfort changing hands. • Changing direction while moving toward goal • Hard Shot with both hands while on the run Left Handed Shot • Tips for Teaching Roll Dodge: • “Sit” before starting dodge • Change hands 2 steps out of the roll dodge • Open Hips and get a wide base • Don’t hang stick
Station - “Soft Toss with Shot” • Coach starts with bucket of balls in the center = • Line 1 is right handed , line 2 is left handed. • Coach tosses ball to player, player catches and shoots. Objectives: • 3 P’s - Pull, Push, Point. • Keep stick vertical • Soft hands - Similar to catching an egg. Hand placement on stick: Line 1 Line 2 Catching Passing/Shooting Top Hand Top Hand Bottom Hand Bottom Hand
X Split and Rip – Soft Toss (K-3) C • Key Points: • Coach makes pass • 1 or 2 coaches toss ball • Dodge opposite • High to low bounce shot • Drill is continuous
X SPLIT & RIP - 2 Man • Key Points: • Move to the ball • 1 Dodge and go • Dodge opposite and toward the cage. • High to low bounce shot • Drill is continuous • Each line should have balls. After player passes ball, they receive the next pass.
X SPLIT, ROLL & RIP - 2 Man • Key Points: • Move to the ball • 1 move and go • Dodge opposite • Keep your feet moving at times • Protect stick coming out of dodge • High to low bounce shot • Drill is continuous Teach the players to sit before coming out of roll dodge.
X Split & Rip w/ Pick • Key Points: • Move to the ball • 1 Dodge and go • Dodge opposite • Moving without ball • High to low bounce shot • Drill is continuous • All balls should be in one line. Players alternate lines
X Hitch Drill From X • Key Points: • Dodging hard to island • Dodging opposite • Player with out ball should be at X. Not on end line. • Drill is continuous. • Only need one ball for the drill (have a few extra in case of a missed pass. • Can do drill with 1 or 2 lines.
X Z Dodges from X w/ Rocker Step • Key Points: • Attackman starts with ball. • Quick move to start, next dodges are split, roll, toe drag • Get to the island and work on Rocker step. • Get to just above GLE, work on Inside Roll • Players should be using their right and left hand.
Question Mark Dodge (Attack) • Key Points: • Attackman starts with ball. • Quick move to start, next dodges are split, roll, toe drag • Get to the island and work on Question Mark. • At the island, push into your defenseman, SIT, punch right arm out to the side lines, • Follow your stick, change hands, and fire.
Inside Roll (Attack) • Key Points: • Attackman starts with ball. • Quick move to start, next dodges are split, roll, front cross over • Get to just above GLE. Fade a bit, sit, relax shoulders, and roll. • Player should not change hands. Stick should be held tight to head until 1 second before shooting
X 2 Man Game - Pass & Pick • Key Points: • Teach patience • Notice where pick is set • Pick man should open to ball.
1v1v1 Ground Balls • Coach rolls 1 ball out. • All three player battle for the ball. • The player that controls the ball passes to the coach. If successful the he is out. The other 2 players try to stop him. • Coach then rolls ball to two remaining players. They battle, who ever wins throws ball to coach. • Coach then rolls ball out to remaining player. He scoops ball up and throws it to the coach. • Next 3 players step up, process repeats Objectives: • Both butts down on ground ball • Keep feet moving • Run to space and make a good pass • If you lose play defense. Butt to Butt Ground Balls • Players pair up, standing butt to butt with ball between/below them. • First Whistle - Box out for position • Second Whistle – Attempt to gain position & scoop the ball. • Player that wins ground should move their feet and run to open space. • Player who lost ground ball should play defense. • Repeat the process Objectives: • Use rear end to gain position on the ball • Use feet to kick ball free (goose) if needed • Both butts low • Scooping through the ball Avoid: • Pushing from behind • Stepping on opposing players stick P1 P2 P1 P2 P1 P2 P1 P2 P2 P1 P1 P2
Station - “Gauntlet” • 1v1 Drill. • Offense - 1 move and go to goal. Player that dodges North/South will win. • If they score that team gets a point. • Defense - Plays without a stick. Teaches them to use their feet. • If defensive player pushes them outside the cones his team gets a point. Objectives: • Dodge north/south (toward the cage) • 1 move and go • Practice split, face, and roll dodge • Play defense with feet, avoid lunging.
1v1 to the Goal • Drill starts with 1v1 Ground Ball. • Winner of ground ball is on offense, loser is on defense. • At the end of the drill they go to the end of the next line. • Drill is continuous C C
2V1 TO THE GOAL ABOVE GLE • Coach rolls ground ball to start drill • Offensive players should use dodging and passing to draw defender prior to making pass to open teamate • Offensive players must make 1 pass before shooting { C {

X Build-Up Drill 2v1 3v2 4v3 5v4 Reset • Key Points: • Coach Rolls ball out. O player picks up GB and plays 2v1. • After shot or bad pass next step of drill begins. • All players stay in. • Coaches releases a D player, giving him time to get into the play. • Coach rolls ball out for O player and drill is now 3v2. • Process continuous until 5v4. • Younger grades can stop at 4v3. • Objectives: • Recognize the situation, 2v1 or 3v2 • Communication C
X 1v1 Four Corners • Key Points: • Offense • 1 move and go • Over hand bounce shots • Defense • Take away top side • Force player down the alley. • Play D with feet not stick. • Stay on O players hips when pushing out.
X 2v2 C • Key Points: • Offense • Pass & dodge opposite. • Off ball pass & cut or pass & pick. • Defense • Take away top side • Off ball be in position to help C
X Y Drill 4th grade- Maybe A team only C • Key Points: • Can start 3v3, 4v4, or 5v5 • Dodging to the net • Off Ball movement • Always being a threat on offense. • Teaches D to slide, communicate, recover.
