Anet Interim Assessment #1: Overview • Interim Assessment #1 (A1) provided baseline data. Average Percentage Correct in ELA and Math by Grade
ANet: ELA Key Ideas and Details standards • RL.1 (Reading Literature) and RI.1 (Reading Informational Text) are foundational standards
ANet: ELA Craft and Structure standards • Craft and structure standards include interpretation, structural analysis, and point of view. Note: The 4th grade assessment only tested one of the RL Craft and Structure standards.
ANet: Highest Performance by Common Core Math Standards Note: To ensure these data are useful in informing instruction, teachers should consider the extent to which each standard was taught to mastery and the number of items assessing it on the A1 interim
ANet: Lowest Performance by Common Core Math Standards Note: To ensure these data are useful in informing instruction, teachers should consider the extent to which each standard was taught to mastery and the number of items assessing it on the A1 interim
Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA2) Overview • Formative assessment for K-3 measuring student performance in oral reading fluency, reading engagement, and comprehension. Utilizes fiction and non-fiction. • Grades 1-3 are assessed in September and May. Kindergarten students are assessed in January. • Benchmark levels range from 1-38 and reflect growth in literacy skills.
Students scoring at or above benchmark decrease by 20% from first to second grade. *Data reflects schools in a single network.
School-specific DRA-2 results reflect significant variability. *Data reflects schools in a single network.
56% of second grade students assess below the benchmark level. • The proficiency benchmark level for the 2nd grade Fall DRA-2 is Level 16. • 21% of students are scoring in the lowest range of benchmark levels (A-4). • 28% of students are scoring above Benchmark Level 16. N=399 *Data reflects schools in a single network.
DRA-2: First graders show mixed performance after the transition from kindergarten. *Data reflects schools in a single network.
DRA-2 Data Takeaways DRA-2 Questions to Consider • The decline in the Fall of 2nd grade suggests that students aren’t achieving mastery by the end of 1st grade. • However, 24% of second-graders are scoring just below the benchmark proficiency level. • How can the DRA-2 shape instructional strategies, particularly for students just below benchmark? For example, teachers are encouraged to use Running Records during Small Group Instruction between assessment periods. • Evaluate staffing strategies: Are teachers the appropriate fit for the grade level? How are schools using evaluation data to coach 1st and 2nd grade teachers?
Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) Overview • Administered as a computer-adaptive assessment to grades 3-8. • Designed to measure reading comprehension. • Students select reading genres of interest and answer questions based on literature passages. • Students receive personalized reading recommendations, as well as a reading level (Lexile score).
SRI: Students testing proficient or above range from 22% in 3rd grade to 40% in 8th grade. Data as of 11/30/2013
SRI Data Takeaways • The number of students performing at “Below Basic” declines steadily from 3rd to 8th grade. • Students performing at the “Basic” level remain relatively consistent, ranging from 34% to 38% SRI Questions to Consider • What can SRI scores tell school leaders when considered alongside other interim assessments, such as Achievement Network? For example, student proficiency on different text types.
