SATS 2012 Mon 14th May – Fri 18th May Please collect a pack of handouts (on tables) – ONE per child please!
New arrangements: • No formal writing test will be sat in SATs week • “A pupil's writing result will be a teacher assessment judgment of their work across Year 6. Teachers' judgements will be informed by and take account of (but not be limited by) the pupil's result on a standard test that will be sent to schools earlier in the spring term.” • Pupils will sit the writing paper (in test conditions) out of the SATs week; date TBA
SATs WEEK Tests: • Reading Paper (1 hour – 15mins pre reading & 45mins answer time) • Maths Paper A (45mins) • Maths Paper B (45mins with calculator) • Mental Maths (20 questions) • Sat in test conditions
Why we have SATs (and how they can be helpful!): • It gives you an idea of a child’s progress compared to others of a similar age, nationally (and locally) • It allows pupils to challenge themselves and shows them what they can achieve when they push themselves • It is a good introduction to the independent learning skills they will need in Secondary school (They DO NOT determine the Secondary school your child gets in to)
How you can help…. • Check over your child’s homework – is it a true reflection of their ability? • Ensure pupils are revising – for a sensible amount of time • Listen to your child read and ask questions about the text (see handout) • Test mental maths and times tables • Use Fronter as a form of revision and to improve skills
Other info… • Marked test scripts and results will be made available to schools by Tuesday 10 July 2012. • It is important that you are in school this week to sit your tests
Thank you very much for coming. Any questions?
