  2. Population Served:Residents of the Town of Lincoln can access a variety of programs and services that make Lincoln an ideal place to live, work and play. The Town of Lincoln is committed to providing quality services that residents can rely on and to support and enhance the quality of life for all. Residents have access to services and programs essential to maintaining a thriving community

  3. Community Development Placement►The Town of Lincoln through the Community Services Department, work to ensure recreation facilities and programs. The provision of these services ensures that all residents, regardless of their recreation interest, and capabilities are able to participate to their own level of effort. The Town of Lincoln operate some programs directly (e.g. summer camp, pools) and other programs with participants (e.g. senior’s centres). Throughout these services the Community Services Department provide consultation and related support services (e.g. seniors clubs, cultural groups, neighbourhood associations)

Great placement for Recreation and Leisure Services Students►RLS students will gain a valuable community development approach through this placement ►RLS students will gain experience in planning programs and special events►RLS students will have opportunities to work with diverse populations in schools, special events, seniors clubs, cultural groups, neighbourhood associations while in a community development approach ►RLS students will gain exceptional leadership, customer service and communication skills in a community development setting

Types of activities & programs experienced ina typical day at placement ►Independent projects such as: ○ Creation of survey or questionnaire based on Summer Adventure Camp ○ Research and compile a random list of past participants of summer camps ○ Create cover letters ○ Prepare mail merges (i.e. addresses, return addresses) ○ Create excel databases, based on analyzing survey results

  12. ►Other duties such as: ○ Attend meetings with neighbourhood associations such as the Boys and Girls Club, Niagara Regional Police, FACS, and Child Advocacy Niagara ○ Take and record minutes at a senior clubs monthly meeting ○ Attend and take part in Volunteer Recognition events ○ Put together and type out letters of nominees for volunteer recognition ○ Create cover letters ○ Work with community service coordinator and director on any projects or programs

Skills gained through placement ► Participated in a staff meeting, community meeting, interdisciplinary meeting,○ attended a meeting at community care regarding child advocacy, also shared information regarding the development of three new parks in town► Demonstrated an understanding of the clientele or population served their needs and their service delivered by the agency○ attended and served at a volunteer recognition night, also recorded minutes at a senior club meeting► Assist with the completion of a flyer, newsletter, bulletin board or calendar○ created a survey, based on a Summer Adventure camp

SKILLS GAINED THROUGH PLAC EMENT continued ► Assist with the collection and collation of data ○ produced a database to form a report on the results of my survey► Assist with volunteer motivation and recognition○ identified and acknowledge volunteers for their enthusiasm and drive, during a special volunteer recognition event► Familiarize myself with the facility’s equipment and supplies○ use of computers, photocopiers, printing machines, mail room and general supplies and equipment through the office and municipal building

What I like about placement ► Working on independent projects, but having tons of support and help from the necessary staff► Getting involved with the community to gain valuable experience in a community development approach ► Being able to network with community associations and clubs to further my knowledge and job prospects► Feeling like you’re a part of a team and enhancing communication skills► Overall, the support and knowledge gained through the Director of Community Services, the Community Services Coordinator, the Community Services Coordinators Assistant, and the Recreation Assistant are extremely helpful and valuable to my future success

As stated through their website, The Town of Lincoln is committed to providing quality services that residents can rely on and to support and enhance the quality of life for all. Residents have access to services and programs essential to maintaining a thriving community. I witnessed this commitment through many areas such as: ○ Assessing declining numbers in their summer camp, as to find a clear direction for future years○ Supporting their seniors by listening to their concerns and addressing their concerns through action○ Listening to their school children and youth with regards to park development ○ Attending community associations and partnering with them on concerns or issues○ Acknowledging their citizens through volunteer recognition events
