  17. Dress Code • Clothing that creates a distraction from learning is inappropriate. Students will be asked to cover up or may be sent home to change. + Scents = Allergies!

  18. Behaviour • Standards of behaviour in school are higher than elsewhere. • Follow the Code of Conduct and other expectations in the Agenda. • Follow all instructions from all staff members without argument. • No loitering in the cafeterias, hallways, or stairwells. • Report others’ misbehaviour to the nearest staff member immediately. ADMINISTRATION

  19. Good Neighbour Policy • Our local community is shared by many different groups of people (e.g., Beverley Morgan Park) • Pick-up after yourself, be courteous to others around you, and share the spaces appropriately.

  20. Attendance • Go to class! • Statistical studies of students in Durham high schools have proven that, for every class you miss, your final mark potential drops by an average of 1%! • Go to class on time! • It is a disruption to the class if you come in late. Progressive discipline measures will apply for repeated lateness.

  21. Signing in and out • If you arrive late at school for any reason, you must sign-in at the main office. • If you need to leave school early for any reason, you must sign-out at the main office. • For appointments, sign-out when you leave and sign-in when you return.

  22. Being Successful • Talk with your teacher(s). • Access Student Success. • Inquire in the Guidance Office. • Get a peer tutor. • Ensure appropriate resources are available to you: • Academic Resource • English Language Learners • etc.

  23. Electronic and Other Items • School Board Policies: • Cell phones, iPhones, Blackberries, and the like turned off and out of sight inside the school (except for at lunch in the cafeterias) • MP3 players, iPods, and the like off and out of sight inside the school • Skateboards (and other wheeled devices) not allowed on school property.

  24. Valuables • The school does NOT recommend bringing valuables to school. • The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items. • If you have valuables at school, NEVER leave them unattended – even for a minute! • If your personal electronic devices are stolen, it is your responsibility to report to the police and provide serial numbers – sometimes they are retrieved

  25. Smoking At any time or day: • Anyone smoking anywhere on school property is subject to a $305 fine or court summons (no matter who “witnesses” it!) • Giving, sharing, or selling a cigarette to someone under 19 is subject to a $305 fine or court summons.

  26. Food and Drink • Clean up the cafeterias as you leave - even if the mess isn’t yours. • No food or drink in classrooms, stairwells, or hallways. • At lunch, students are to be on the first floor only (unless with a teacher in Guidance, Student Success, etc.)

  27. Lockers • Lockers are assigned to students, but remain property of the school. • Secure the locker assigned to you as you are responsible for what’s in it. • Do not share your combination with anyone other than your teacher. • All lockers MUST be registered with the office.

  28. Study Periods • If you wish to remain on school property during spares, you can ask if there’s room in the Library, Guidance Office, or Academic Resource to quietly study. No games, noise, or electronics. • No loitering in cafeterias, hallways, or stairwells.

  29. Parking • All vehicles must display a valid PRSS Parking Tag (which is available free from the office). • Unauthorized vehicles will be tagged and/or towed at owner’s expense! • No parking in the south lot. • No loitering in vehicles or anywhere in the parking lot.

  30. Paperwork • The start-up of the school year does have quite a bit of paperwork to ensure the rest of the year goes smoothly. • Fill in, sign, and return all of the various forms to your homeroom teacher BY TOMORROWto avoid visits to the office just for paperwork!
