Abbotsholme Preparing for life’s journey
Agenda • Our Vision • Progress in 2010/11 • Five Year Plan
Our vision • It is our firm belief that a good education is an essential preparation for the whole of life. • An education at Abbotsholme provides not only the starting blocks but also the first few metres of life’s track
Our Aims • Abbotsholme seeks to identify and develop the diversity of talent in each child Abbotsholme is exceptionally successful in achieving its aims. The pupils personal development is outstanding. ISI Inspection 2011
Our Holistic approach • We want all of our children to succeed - whatever their individual talents or abilities may be - but also to feel successful Achievement is excellent. There is outstanding achievement in the wider curriculum which provides a wealth of opportunities in adventurous and sporting activities and on the school farm. ISI Inspection 2011
Challenge • We offer pupils challenges which will build strength and test courage The school’s promotion of physical and adventurous activities is excellent. Many pupils discover in themselves strength of character in tackling the challenges of the wider curriculum. There are high levels of achievement in Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme with a high success rate at all levels including gold. ISI Inspection 2011
Perspective • We provide pupils with a programme of cultural enrichment to widen their perspectives The school’s outstanding promotion of personal growth leadership, international awareness and the development of social conscience and responsibility through opportunities offered by its association with Round Square results in pupils’ strong appreciation of diversity, the needs of others and “making a difference” ISI Inspection 2011
Environment • We show them how to nurture and care for the environment All pupils have horse riding lessons and access to the farm and estate. Outdoor leadership and expedition leader awards, wide particitipation in the D of E award scheme, opportunities for pupils to be dependable on the farm and to help with lambing, all serve to promote a strong sense of the individual’s responsibility to the whole. ISI Inspection 2011
Responsibility • We teach pupils the importance of taking responsibility both for themselves and for others Excellent programmes of personal, social and health education for all ages promote the pupils’ excellent personal development in many areas. Pupils manage themselves well, facing each day with enthusiasm, optimism and hope. They learn to look after themselves and one another. ISI Inspection 2011
Achievement • Although we are committed to helping all pupils fulfil their academic potential, it is their development as people that must be seen as the ultimate test. Pupils are successful in gaining admission to universities with rigorous entry requirements, with some winning sponsorship from international companies. Those pupils with learning difficulties often make exceptional progress academically, in many cases allied to progress that they have made in their personal development. ISI Inspection 2011
Values • All Abbotsholmians benefit from our ethos which teaches them to value honesty and integrity. It encourages a sense of self-worth and of pride in their own achievements whilst in equal measure, celebrating the success of others Pupils’ personal development is exemplary. Pupils embrace wholeheartedly the school’s aspirations of courage, honesty, humility, integrity and respect. Pupils consistently demonstrate strong moral awareness. They are friendly and welcoming, proud of their school and supportive of each other. ISI Inspection 2011
Learning • It is our belief that while learning should be challenging, it should also be both stimulating and enjoyable. The curriculum makes an outstanding contribution to the pupils’ academic achievement and personal development. Its academic and wider ranging components provide exceptionally well for all ages, needs and abilities.
