1. Designer babies Now you know what is meant by the term, you can begin to formulate your own opinions. Over the next few decades there will be many changes in what we can do with our genes and these decisions will come down to you. Looking at these statements, decide whether you agree or disagree

2. By choosing the partner you produce a child with, you are already beginning to select what characteristics your child will have. So how is designer babies any different?

3. People would ‘design’ babies for selfish reasons instead of to prevent disease or suffering.

4. This technology could avoid the suffering of children with inherited conditions.

5. Using these new technologies we can all live longer, better and healthier lives.

6. There could be prejudice and discrimination against ‘non - designed’ babies.

7. Everyone should have access to designer baby technology, regardless of cost, age or where they live

8. This could lead to a future inbalance between the sexes

9. Not every genetic illness is a prison sentence.

10. If it was my child I would want them to have the best start in life and so would do whatever was necessary.

11. There needs to be laws to stop people doing whatever they want with this technology.

12. In a world already becoming ‘looks’ obsessed, this technology will create a greater desire to become ‘perfect’
