AOF Web Program….Overview • AOF Web Program background • Contents of the Web • Making it a reality • Installation • Future Visions • Summary / Conclusion WHAT DO YOU ALREADY KNOW?
AOF Web Program Background • What it’s used for • Brief history • Why we adapted it
Contents of the “Web” • Basic directions on how to manipulate the Web • Quick links to commonly used publications • External links to AF, FAA, & AFFSA sites • Other items will be discussed in the “Future Vision”
Contents of the “Web” • Master Task and Technical References (MTTRs) • AF standardized • Master Reference Index • Comprehensive listing of all mission essential documents
Making it a reality • Must transition, where appropriate, from “paper” to “web technology” • What do trainee’s use the most? • What is the best format to meet the need? • Allow a “spin-up” time for the end user’s to become comfortable with the AOF Web Program (phase in period)
HQ-AFFSA’s Role • Maintain AF standardized MTTRs. • Accomplish AF task breakdown (lowest denominator) for FAAO 7110.65, AFI 13-203, 13-213, 13-218, and ATCTSs • Maintain AF MRI. • Convert all identified FAAOs, AFIs, and ATCTSs into HTML code. • Maintain “hyperlinks” from AF identified TRs to the applicable pubs. • Maintain distribution process to ensure 100% delivery to all required locations. • Establish AF policy and procedures for implementation and overall program use.
Training Managers’ Role • Explain how user’s log into the program • Explain how paper products will be used in conjunction with the AOF Web • Provide guidance about documentation procedures (i.e., AFJQS) • Ensure HHQ guidance is filtered downward • Serve as the focal point to answer questions/solve problems associated with the program
Training Managers Role • Accomplish local task breakdown (lowest denominator). • Identify and embed local TR information into the AOF Web MTTR • OI’s, MAJCOM Supplements, QRC’s, RRF’s, OPLANs etc, • Ensure local TRs are current according to the MRI. • Identify facility management deferred task items.
Installation • Minimum requirements: • Hardware Requirements • 486/66 processor or higher. • Computer monitor with a video resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. • 2x CD-ROM. • Recommended Hardware: • Pentium/100 processor or higher. • Multi-media kit (speakers and sound card). • 8x CD-ROM or higher
Installation • Software Requirements. • OS - MS Windows95. • Browser - MS Internet Explorer 3.01 or higher. • Note: The AOF Web Program will work with Netscape 3.0 or higher but it is not recommended. • PDF Reader - Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or higher • CBT Viewer - Power Point Animator. • The Browser, PDF Reader, and CBT Viewer are all included on the AOF Web Program CD.
Installation • Installed in numerous ways: • Accessed by CD only • Download on an individual computer’s hard drive to set up various workstations. • Note: Downloading the entire AOF Web Program requires about 300MB of free space. • Via the LAN (Highly Recommended) • Download on one “host” computer and have other computers network into the “host”.
Imbedding Local Products • Training Managers will be able to imbed local products into the AOF Web Program • Convert .doc, .rtf, .txt files to HTML format. • Store the HTML files into the AOF Web Local folder provided by HQ AFFSA. • Create Hyper-links to enable quick access to your products. • Suggested software is Microsoft Front Page 98
BOOKMARKING • To bookmark items within a document: • Highlight the text you want bookmarked • Choose Edit • Select Bookmark (toward the bottom of the list) • Type a name for the bookmark or accept the default • Click OK
Future Vision of the AOF Web Program • Eliminate the need for TRs in the PCGs, TCGs, etc. • Establish the AOF Web MTTR as the “official” location for all TR breakdowns (Ex: PCG’s, are able to refer to AF MTTR as TRs versus having to list each individual reference) • Have the AOF Web Program become it’s own Web site. • Note: Only possible after 100% of the units are internet capable!!
Conclusion • The computer age is well upon us. • The AOF Web Program is the first step for ATC and AM to “capture” and use the available technological advances. • Growth of the program (or one like it) is inevitable but can only occur with input and support from all involved
