The Cornell HCEC. HCEC (HEALTH CAREERS EVALUATION COMMITTEE). What is it? Cornell’s HCEC serves those who apply to health professional schools that request a university letter of evaluation. You are not required to use HCEC, but it is recommended. How do I use this service?

HCEC(HEALTH CAREERS EVALUATION COMMITTEE) • What is it? • Cornell’s HCEC serves those who apply to health professional schools that request a university letter of evaluation. • You are not required to use HCEC, but it is recommended. • How do I use this service? • You will have to register at Barnes Hall and pay a non-refundable service fee (~$190).
HCEC Process at a Glance • Fall Orientation in November • Online registration documents due mid January • Transcripts and LORs due in March • Interviews start in April • Submitting the completed AADSAS copy when possible • Letters sent out starting in July
Written Component of HCEC • Background information form • Personal Statement • 20 Questions
Letters of Recommendation • 2-3 letters are required • Using Interfolio.com • Start Early!!! • Start building relationships with your favorite professors • Visit them during office hours, get to know them
General Overview • You submit the application • You get assigned an interviewer (someone who doesn’t know you at all) • After interviewing, your interviewer writes a letter based on your application and LORs • HCEC attaches that letter + all your LORs and sends them to AADSAS around July/August • For more information visit: http://www.career.cornell.edu/paths/health/medschool/hcec/process.cfm
