What is I-Mode • I-mode is a mobile phone internet service. • Allows users to access and surf the internet on mobile phones • Introduced by a Japanese company called DoCoMo.
What is I-Mode • I-Mode works based on packet data transmission technology. • Users are charged on the information they sent or received. • Reached 10 million subscribers in 2 years. • Caused a revolution in both business and private lifestyles.
I-Mode in details • 1) I-mode requires smart phones to use the service. • 2) Language used in I-mode is cHTML. • 3) Offer different services like: i) I-appli ii) I-area iii) I-motion.
Current/Future Status • History: • More than 95,000 Internet sites are providing a variety of contents for I-mode. • 3G network increased the speed of data transfer and act as an infrastructure. • Current/Future status: • Bye-bye I-mode.
What is WAP? • WAP – Wireless Application Protocol • WAP allows the transmission and reception of data via wireless devices. • WAP has been created by a consortium of Phone.com, Ericsson , Motorola & Nokia. • WAP has two steps procedure to work: • WAP Gateway • Micro browser
WAP in Details • Features: • WAP makes massive information, communication, and data resources of the Internet more easily available. • Uses WML. • WTAI. • Optimized protocol stack.
Current/Future Status • Needs to be improved. • People want the best of both worlds which cannot be done unless new technology is developed. • Bye-Bye WAP!
Similarities and Differences • Similarities: 1) Both technologies serve the same purpose in that they both allow data and information transfer however, the differences between them is what defines them.
Similarities and Differences • Differences: 1) I-Mode is only in Japan while WAP is in Europe. 2) Different Graphic capabilities. 3) Charging difference I-mode always on, while WAP uses Dial-up to access IP services. 4) I-Mode uses HTML while WAP uses WML.
