  2. Article Summary Financial crisis has hit colleges and universities particularly hard Budget cuts have forced ASU to cut faculty positions, furlough employees Tuition and class sizes are expected in increase in the near future to compensate for the budget shortfall

Article Summary ASU has rapidly expanded its’ research operations and enrollment during President Michael Crow’s tenure University is trying to expand research & build prestige for itself on a national level Is access to solid undergraduate education for state residents being sacrificed? “Finding the right balance between improving academic quality and serving state residents is not easy.”

  4. Commentary • I agree with Patrick M. Callan, president of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education • “In this economy, the places that have been trying to claw their way up the ladder; the ones whose aspirations have exceeded their financial vision, are going to have the toughest time. They can’t be all things to all people.” • ASU needs to commit itself to its’ students, not administrators’ egos, in the face of financial strain
