About Mobile Application • Mobile Applications :: Applications developed for small devices like pagers, mobile phones and TV set-top boxes. • Will be focusing on java-based applications for mobile phones. kbele/cs525
Java ME(J2ME) Platform • Provides a collection of Java APIs for the development of applications for small devices such as cell phones, PDA’s and set-top boxes. • Open Source • Provides portability of applications kbele/cs525
IDE’s used for Mobile Applications • Netbeans Mobility Pack - Offers visual design of application flow with drag-and-drop creation of application UI - Just need to add application logic to an automatically generated Java code • EclipseME - Provides with set of tools for creating, testing and packaging MIDlets kbele/cs525
Java Tools for Mobile Application • JMail :: - Used to send and retrieve e-mail from the web site without a mail program or a mail server such as Eudora, Exchange or Outlook. -Can be used by developers to send e-mail from their ASP code or Windows program. - Also has encryption and advanced mass-mailing features. • JMailServer :: - Used to build the web based email service. - Easy Plug and Mail installation - An extensive administrative GUI, to an ability to offer the customers to set up an alias from their private email account to their system, when in need of a web interface. kbele/cs525
