  1. 4CeeD Demonstration Step-by-step demonstration showing creation, uploading, and sharing of research data Timothy Spila, Ph.D. June 4, 2018

  2. Open web browser URL: www.4CeeD.Illinois.edu

  3. Start Registration Provide email address that will be your login

  4. Email confirmation Check the email you entered for a link to complete the registration process.

  5. Sign up Enter your name and initial password to complete the setup process

  6. First login You can now use your email and password for your first login to the system

  7. First view

  8. Create first collection Select My Collectionsunder the You menu.

  9. Create new collection Press Create button

  10. Enter information on new collection Give new collection a name Give a description Click Create

  11. Collection view Can add dataset to collection Can also add child-collection to parent-collection

  12. Create Dataset Give dataset a name Give dataset a description Click Create

  13. Add files to dataset Files can be added to the dataset by: drag-and-drop into the browser window Selecting via Select Files button

  14. Select files

  15. Upload files Once files have been selected, press the Upload button to have them placed into the dataset

  16. Upload files After the upload is completed, you should see the files listed. At this point, you can click directly on the file to go to it or click View Dataset to see all of the files in the dataset.

  17. Dataset with files The dataset now contains the two files that were uploaded. Clicking on the file will now take you to that file.

  18. File view Since the .SPE file type is recognized by 4CeeD, a thumbnail image will be displayed of the file.

  19. TEM extractor Works with DM3 files

  20. SEM extractor

  21. AFM extractor Uses Gwydin to pull multiple channels from data file.

  22. Comments/Tags Comments and tags can be added to describe important information about the uploaded data.

  23. Metadata 4CeeD extracts Metadata from data files of known types and presents that information with the thumbnails of the data.

  24. Tree view The new collection is now visible in the tree view. Clicking on the arrow will open the collection to show what it contains. Clicking on the name of the collection will open the collection. Right clicking on the name of the collection will give you the option to Rename or Trash the collection.

  25. Spaces Spaces are used to group collections, datasets, and files for sharing with other researchers. New spaces can be created using the Create menu.

  26. Create new space Give your space a name and description. Select initial privacy level for the space. Selecting Public will make the space available to all researchers.

  27. Space view Once the space is created, you can click Manage Users to add or remove researchers who have access to the space and everything contained in it.

  28. Manage users Users of a space can be Admin, Editor, Uploader, and Viewer. Admin: has full permissions on a space Editor: can make changes to the space including adding researchers, collections, files, etc. Cannot delete the space or add other collaborators. Uploader: has the ability to look at data in the space, can upload new data. Viewer: can look at data in the space

  29. External users If you would like to invite a researcher to a shared space who does not currently have a login to 4CeeD, you can invite them using the Invites tab.

  30. Adding a collection to a space A collection can be added to a space in the collection view by selecting the space in “Space containing the Collection” drop-down box and clicking Add.

  31. Collection in a space Once the collection has been added to the space, it will appear in the Collections view.

  32. My spaces Spaces can be viewed by selecting My Spaces in the You menu item. Two viewing choices are available: Grid view Detail view

  33. My spaces Spaces can be viewed by selecting My Spaces in the You menu item. Two viewing choices are available: Grid view Detail view

  34. Space view Space view now shows all collections and datasets that exist in the space.

  35. Activity tab The Activity tab contains a list of all actions that have been taken by your account. It also lists spaces that have been shared with you.

  36. Adding more data Additional data files can be added to existing data sets.

  37. Adding more data Addition files are selected using the same method as before (drag-and-drop or selected through browser upload).

  38. Added to a space If you are added to someone else’s space, addition items will show up in your tree view.

  39. Uploaders Two types of Uploaders exist in 4CeeD to make it easier to import data. Standard Upload allows for templates to be used Zip Upload allows for amounts of data to be uploaded with file structure kept intact.

  40. Standard uploader The standard uploader walks you through multiple steps to fully identify the location (space, collection, dataset) to put the data.

  41. Standard uploader You can select a existing space or create a new one.

  42. Standard uploader You can choose an existing collection or create a new one.

  43. Standard uploader You can choose an existing dataset or create a new one. New datasets need to have a name and user defined metadata

  44. Standard uploader Templates can be created to define optional or required data that must be entered when new data is uploaded with the template. If the same value is often used, it can be defined with the template as a suggested value.

  45. Standard uploader Upload example using the newly created template

  46. Standard uploader Add files to the upload.

  47. Standard Uploader Click Submit.

  48. Standard Uploader Data now appears in the tree view.

  49. Zip uploader Create a zipped collection of directories and files on the uploading computer. Browse to or drag-and-drop files into the 4CeeD Zip Uploader page. Note: If there is a significant amount of data to be uploaded, it may take a while for the data to populate in your account.
