Industry Overviews • Detailed overviews of over 50 industries worldwide. • Includes: “Investment Services,” “Financial Services: Diversified,” “Banking,” and “REITS.” • Reviews industry trends, how industry operates, key statistics, how to analyze company in industry, top players, and industry references. • Once in the database, select Industries from the menu bar. • Tip: Use PDF format. • Tip: Use Comparative Co.   9. Factiva Example: Articles with Goldman Sachs in the Headline/Lead Paragraph in the Wall Street Journal for the past year. Information ON Investment Firms • Once in Factiva, click on the “Search – Search Builder” Tab • In the “Free Text” search box, type hlp=Goldman Sachs. • From the “Date” pull-down menu select “In the last year.” • Select Source: Wall Street Journal (click ONCE to add) • Click “Run Search.” • Articles with Goldman Sachs in the Headline/Lead Paragraph in the Wall Street Journal will appear. Sort by Relevancy to get articles that mention Goldman the most. • To download selected articles to Microsoft Word select items then click “RTF.”

Investment Research Process • Earnings • First Call Real-Time Earnings Estimates http://www.library.hbs.edu/go/first_call.html • Bloomberg • On single security main menu type EE <GO> for Earnings Estimates Menu. • On single security main menu type EVT <GO> for calendar of corporate events. Check for audio and/or transcripts of earnings calls. • Thomson ONE Banker • http://www.library.hbs.edu/go/thomsonbanker.html • For transcripts of earnings calls limit search by Contributor to “Streetevents.” • For more sources see Fast Answer • Question: Where can I find transcripts of conference calls?

Institutional Investor Institutional Investorhttp://www.library.hbs.edu/go/instinv.html • All America (All Europe, All Japan, etc.) Research Team Surveys list top analysts by sector • In the upper left under "Publications" select the U.S. or International edition. • Scroll down and on the left side click "Rankings Archives.” • From the pull-down menu next to "View another ranking" select "All- America Research Team." • “20 Rising Stars” in the field (e.g., hedge funds, wealth management, real estate, mutual funds, compliance, etc.) • In the upper left under "Publications" select “Rising Stars”

Choose “Screening” then “Transactions” • Under “List Management” click “Add Companies”. • Search for advisors by name [in this case Goldman Sachs]. • Add them to Selected Companies, then select “Advisor” from the “This criterion describes” field. Click “Add Criteria” button. • Under “General Transaction Details” click on “Transaction Dates” and choose “last 12 months”. • Click “Add Criteria” button. • Click on “View Results” to view results. • To create a specific report, click “Add Display Columns” under Display Options. • Choose desired fields and order to display and click “View Results.” • Click Excel icon to export screening results and aggregate data.

Under M&A choose “Advanced M&A Search”. • On Item List tab expand “Deal Info” and expand “Dates.” Choose “Date Announced,” select “Year-to-Date,” and click “Apply to search.” • On Item List tab expand “Manager/Fees.” Choose “Target or Acquiror Financial Advisors” and search for advisors by name [in this case Goldman Sachs]. • Add them to Selected Items, then click “OK.” • Under the Search List section of the Advanced Search choose the type of report to Open/Create. Choose “Standard Report.” • Click “Execute.” • Scroll all the way to the right to click Excel icon to export results.

Choose “Screening” then “Companies” • In box to “Search or add data points:” type “assets under management.” Scroll to desired data item and click “Quick add.” • Follow prompts to specify desired value (in $mm) for specific time period [in this case 100000 Latest Annual]. Click “Add Criteria” button. • Under “Company Details” click on “Geographic Locations” and choose “Europe”. Click “Add Criteria” button. • Click on “View Results” to view results.

Answer: Generate custom tables or find league tables in: • Institutional Investor.com - In the upper left under Publications select the U.S. or International edition. Scroll down and on the left side click Rankings Archives. • Thomson ONE Banker • Click "Deals Analysis" from the left navigation bar. • Click the deal category of interest (M&A, Equity, Bond, or Loan). • Click “Advanced Search” to create a search or “League Tables“ for preformatted tables. • Bloomberg Academic or Bloomberg Professional - Type LEAG and hit GO. • Audiovisual Demonstration for Creating Generic League Tables • Audiovisual Demonstration for Creating Custom League Tables
