  2. What is HDMI? • High Definition Media Interface • A transmission standard. • Invented by seven CE companies • Copy protection ‘handshake’. • No recording devices. • Won’t work “too well”.

What is HDMI? • 19 conductors • 3 shielded twisted pairs: data • 1 shielded twisted pair: clock • 100Ω±15Ω • 1 wire for control • CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) • 2 wires for 2-way communication (DDC): • High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) • EDID reading • Handshaking • 1 wire for +5v (50mA) • 5 ground wires for • 1 wire for Hot Plug Detection • 1 wire reserved for future use
