What is Topten? • Transparent consumer-oriented online search tool • Presenting most energy-efficient up-to-date appliances • i.e. household appliances, office equipment, consumer electronics and cars • Based on labels, standardized declarations and independent analysis • Independent of producers and commercial distributors

  3. What is Topten? • Competition on most original & effective promotion campaign for energy efficient products (targeting large-scale buyers). • Advice for large-scale public and private buyers • Product exhibition on most energy efficient products for manufacturers • Monitoring market evolution of targeted appliances • Media activities

Why Topten? • To encourage the choice for energy efficient products • To orient manufacturers and decision-makers towards more energy efficient appliances, by: • Topten websites • Establishing constructive dialogues with multinational industry, governments and private sectors (incl. retailers)

  5. When is Topten? • European IEE-project “Euro-Topten” project: January 2006 - up until October 2008 (34 months). • In October 2006, nine Topten websites will be launched. • After 2008 national Topten websites are expected to continue their activities • More countries will build up their own national Topten sites during and after Topten project.

Where is Topten? • Topten idea was launched in Switzerland in 2000 • Well-known website: nearly 1 million visitors per year ! • Similar initiatives in France and Austria • January 2006: European IEE-project “Euro-Topten” • Topten International Group (TIG) • Launch, support and coordinate national Topten websites • www.topten.info
