  1. How the New Generation Celebrate Diwali With Modern Gifts Diwali is one of the most awaited festivals for everyone in India. You’ve probably heard it a lot, but it’s really like Christmas for Hindus. It’s a festival that fills up our lives and the entire country with lights. This too like other festivals. Unlike other festivals, this one goes on for five different days celebrated in different religions. It’s one festival that is celebrated even for weeks after the original days. That’s how much people love it. Here’s all you need to know about this delightful festival: It’s not just celebrated by Hindus, it’s celebrated by Sikhs and Jains, as well. The dates change every year around October and November, based on the position of the moon. Each Diwali marks the start of a new year in the Hindu calendar. One way of knowing it’s Diwali is when you’re driving around town and you see small and big stores decorated with lights and the entrances are blessed with fancy lamps known as ‘Diyas’. The festival honors the Hindu Goddess of wealth, that is Lakshmi. The light ignited by the Diyas are said to help the Goddess find her way into peoples’ homes and bless them for years to come. There’s an important pooja that takes place in the evening of the main Diwali day. That pooja is done in honor of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. Laxmi and Ganesha are worshipped together in every household with sweets like ‘Laddu’, flowers and reciting holy chants. This pooja is a spiritual act that is performed to bring about happiness and wealth in everyone's lives. Right after that, people burst a couple of loud crackers in respect of the Gods. Until a couple of years ago, crackers used to be the biggest deal in India. It’s still quite popular in many areas around the country, but the popularity has decreased by a huge amount since people have started finding out about the impact crackers leave on the environment and neighboring animals. However, the bursting of few of those loud crackers, right after the pooja hasn’t stopped, as people like to stick to traditions and honor their Gods. Another popular event that takes place during Diwali, is their house parties. Families like to invite a few of their neighbors and old friends over to play a game of Rummy, Poker or Flash. These house parties are filled with food, music, sweets and happy memories. These house parties wouldn’t really be as easy, for home-makers if not for their workers. It’s a happy time for them as well. Not only do they get a bonus in their salaries, they get new clothes as gifts along with a small piece of jewelry made of an artificial diamond. Older families do this, while their children go to fancy Diwali parties all over the city. The older

  2. generation children used to stay home with their families, but the newer generation children prefer going out with their friends. One of the most exciting parts of Diwali is the sharing of gifts. People share delightful, sometimes expensive gifts among very close friends and family. Jewelry gifts are extremely common, especially among the North Indians. In fact, a study proves that Mumbai jewelers have the best time around this season. When families have got daughters, who’ve been married recently, they contact their favorite diamond manufacturer in Mumbai and start working on their jewelry piece, a few weeks before Diwali. This is popular all over India, but especially popular in Mumbai and other north Indian cities. With the passing of time, people are starting to find out about synthetic or manmade diamonds. They’re a lot less expensive and they’ve even got the same physical properties and chemical composition as natural diamonds. So why spend more on natural ones, when these are a 100% real and even look a lot clearer. In more recent years, these diamonds have been a popular form of jewelry gift for these festivals. Read up some more about the advantages these diamonds have over the natural ones and when you’re convinced, go online to find lab grown diamond manufacturers around you. However, if you’re looking for a less expensive gift option for your friends a number of chocolate brands make ready-made hampers especially for this festival. You can either consider them or come up with a lot more personalized gifts, based on your friends’ personalities.
