Speed Stacking How to Properly Complete the 3 Stack
“See It, Believe It…” • Remember we talked about Speed Stacking as a sport a little bit last time we met… • What do you all think it means to be ambidextrous? • Let’s check out a few short video clips of Speed Stacking at www.speedstacks.com
Why participate in this awesome new sport? • How is Speed Stacking beneficial to you? • Brainstorm your ideas out loud • Just respect your classmates if they are talking…
Benefits of Speed Stacking… Concentration Athleticism Learn Patterns & Sequencing Using both hands equally helps your brain! Everyone can do it! It's FUN!
Let’s Get Ready • Please grab a stack pack of cups from the box of cups • If a classmate needs some cups please share ½ of your stack but DO NOT PLAY with them yet • Put your stack in front of you-we will only use 3 cups for the basic pattern
Ready Position • The ready position is how you will begin every time you do a pattern • Just place your hands on either side of the cups, flat on the table • In doing anything with the cups-always use both hands EQUALLY!
“Rules of the Stack” • P- pull the cup to the side that you lead with • C-go in a circle with the cups • L-light soft touch • S- grab sides of cup
The Upstack • Miss Renee is the expert who is going to show you how to complete a proper Upstack? • This is basis of every pattern • Watch closely to be sure you are doing it right
The Downstack • This is just as important as the Upstack • Miss Renee is going to show you how to complete a proper Downstack? • Ask for help if you need it
Self Check to help you… • If you want to make sure you are doing it properly… • Switch 1 cup with a classmate that has a different color than you do • Your different colored cup should always go from top to bottom and vice versa
The 3 Stack • Ok, you are going to practice the 3 Stack for 5-10 minutes • Please pay attention to your technique are you are stacking because you will rate yourself later • Remember, you must use both hands and the idea is to get faster at the stack
Practice • If you need help, let us know • If you get it quickly, grab 3 more cups and move onto the 3-3- stack -it is the same EXACT thing with 2 stacks of 3 • If you happen to move through that quickly you may move onto the 3-3-3 Stack, which is the same but with 3 stacks of 3 • If you want to move on you have to call one of us over first
Practice Stacking • OK, “ready position” set and GO! 3-3 Stack 3 Stack 3-3-3 Stack
Nice Job! • Any volunteers to come up and show us your stacking skills? • You can do the 3-3 Stack or whichever stack you are comfortable with • We will have students from each site show off for you
What’s a Fumble? • A fumble is when you make a mistake • The “Tipper” • The “Slider” • The “Tumbler” • What should you do if fumble? • Go back and fix your mistake, DON’T GIVE UP!
Great Job! • Keep in mind-if you didn’t “master” this pattern yet, it’s ok because… • Everyone can work at their own pace in Speed Stacks after you learn the basics Pace Yourself!
How did you do? • Now I need you to grab a checklist out of the Speed Stacks box. It is printed on yellow paper. • You will spend a few minutes rating yourself on your stacking today. • If you need to stack again to rate yourself, feel free to do it now. • It’s very important to be honest. I will be collecting these.
Wrap it up • Make sure your name is on the checklist • Each week when we do this, I will let you know when to stack your cups • So go ahead and stack your cups in the sleeves now • Put your sleeve and your checklist in the box or turn into your coach
Next week • You all did an awesome job today! • Next week we will go over the 3-3 stack • Some of you may work on it, the 3-3-3 or you may want to continue to work on the 3 stack • Let’s thank Miss Rene and say goodbye to our Valley View classmates
