Rosenzweig & Dennet(1972) study of neural plasticity Aim: To examine the effect of environment on neuronal development Procedure: Laboratory experiment IV – environment of the rats (enriched/ impoverished) – for 30 to 60 days DV – Neuronal development in post mortem – length of neurons and number of connections, weight of the frontal cortex Findings: Enriched environment – larger neurons with more synaptic connections & thicker frontal cortex – frontal lobe (thinking/planning) heavier in the rats from the enriched environment Conclusion: The environment can influence neuronal development – neural plasticity Evaluation: Ethical issues? To what extent does it apply to humans?
