M.I.S OBJECTIVES • To enable the Administration to work efficiently and effectively by providing continuous, reliable and secure services for their IT needs • To ensure appropriate access for the Administration to required information and ensure that this is reliable and consistent • To ensure that available and planned IT provisions are used effectively
M.I.S. RESPONSIBILITIES (1) • To design and develop information systems which promote efficient and effective use of resources • To introduce new applications to improve the quality and quantity of management information • To provide application support for the institution planning process
M.I.S. RESPONSIBILITIES (2) • To devise appropriate methods for the dissemination and control of management information in conformance with institutional policies • To advise on procurement policies which will assist in achieving these aims • To promote and provide training to improve the efficient and effective use of management information
WHAT DO WE DO? • Operational support and systems management for administrative hardware and applications software • Project management services • Applications design, development and support
SUPPORT & SYSTEMS ADMIN • Security • Backups • User access • Database administration • Application management • PC administration • Contingency planning - disaster recovery
PROJECT MANAGEMENT SERVICES • Managers and users all want good project management…. • …. unless it affects what they want to do
OBJECTIVES (1) • Realistically assess project complexity • Develop a comprehensive project proposal and/or scope document • Develop an agreed action plan • Establish an appropriate project implementation team
OBJECTIVES (2) • Prevent users from mistaking every half-baked idea for a viable project • Prevent managers from overlooking the stakeholders • Prevent users or managers from developing unrealistic goals
