Statistics Independent Project: A Pharmacist-Driven Intervention Program Yvette Garcia, PharmD, BCPS 1st Year Executive Administration Program
Pharmacist-Driven Intervention Program • To evaluate whether a pharmacist-driven intervention program affects total pharmacy savings • Within the past 2 years an antibiotic stewardship program was implemented at Rio Grande Regional Hospital • Pharmacists are required to make and document medication interventions on a daily basis
Data • Monthly total numbers of antibiotic interventions and defined daily doses (DDD) per 1,000 adjusted-patient days (APD) • Hypothesis • Total savings=$6984.26 +$113.06 X1 + $5.29 X2 + ε • X1: antibiotic interventions • X2: DDD/1K APD
Regression • 70% of variation in savings can be explained by variation in antibiotic interventions and DDD/1 K APD
Regression • On average each patient has a total savings of $6,984.26 with an additional savings of $113.06 per antibiotic intervention and $5.29 per DDD/1K APD
Conclusion • Antibiotic interventions are a significant determinant of total savings • To increase total savings pharmacist should continue to evaluate patients for antibiotic interventions
