FRIENDS OF CARTER BARRON FOUNDATION OF THE PERFORMING ARTS Where Education for DC Children and Youth Counts PRESS RELEASE Due to popular demand, the Friends of Carter Barron comes back with “The Return of GOD’S Gift to DC” for only four performances on the campus of the historic Howard University at Campton Auditorium starting December 18-20, 2009, featuring the Grammy Sensation, YOLANDA ADAMS that shall star DC’s best performing arts youth in the holiday musical titled, “The Return of GOD’s Gift to DC. The most sought after GOSPEL American contemporary artist, Yolanda Adams, born in Houston, Texas in 1964 quit her teaching job in the 1980s and set out on a journey to spread the good word through danceable Gospel music. Borrowing heavily from R&B tradition, she slapped a modern groove on the old styles and, along with a number of like-minded contemporaries, revitalized a lagging Christian music scene in the process. In a powerfully emotive voice, she can tear it up on a chipper Whitney Houston-like pop number and, with obviously deep devotion, keep it real on somber, synth-heavy traditional. By her twentieth year in the music biz, Adams had racked up 20 major accolades, from BETs to AMAs to Grammys, and showed no signs of slowing down. In fact, to mark that two-decade anniversary, she left Atlantic and signed with Columbia, launching a new era in bold RnB from a humble diva. That’s right, YOLANDA ADAMSto be joined by DC’s Own Tanya Blount (hit “Through the Rain,” and movie “Sister Act II”) and Terita Redd (Broadway Billboard in “Hairspray”), along w/ entertainment from DC Legislators Yvette Alexander, Marion Barry, and Harry Tommy Thomas, Jr ALL performs on December 18th thru 20th at Campton Auditorium for the spectacular youth theatrical musical event of 2010, “The Return of GOD’s Gift to DC, December 18 – 20 for three (3) 7:30 pm, and one (1) matinee performances.
