Quote • "You'll see lawyers and doctors at little girls' or boys' games and some of these people, it's like they've taken a pill that turns them into demons” (Dawson,2004).
Characteristics • Vulgar language • Physical & verbal altercations • Competitive • Temper tantrums • Abuse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gpj3NBDEi4
Lexus • Get your head in the game! • How the hell could you miss the free throw! • Knock him out! • What are you thinking?
Do the behaviors of sports parents effect the outcome of their child's success? • Performance can become better or worse • Try harder • Give up
The effects on their children • Mental & Physical health • Eating disorders • Overwhelmed and stressed • Motivation • Punishment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkdGfqFMv0w&feature=related
Why do parents behave this way • Scholarships • Their up bringing • Relive lives through their children • Creating a bond
Consequences • The behaviors of some of the sports parents have become so out of control that it becomes hard for the coach to even want to continue doing their jobs anymore. Thiseffects the kids because without a coach they can not play the sport. The role of the parent is to be a provider, interpreter, and role model, not to coach or tell the coach how to do their job.
