Henri Rousseau (1844-1910) • Henri Rousseau was an artist who painted in the late early 1900's. • He was famous for his dream-like depictions of jungles and wildlife. • Ironically, he did not paint these scenes from nature or from experience. Everything he painted, he studied from illustrations in books.
Things to Look For: • The shapes of the leaves • The animals hiding • The colours used
Leaves • Look at the shapes of the leaves • Choose one shape leaf • Trace it on your cardboard or paper • Cut it out • Use it as a template to trace around
Animals • Choose a jungle animal • You won’t see much of it, only the skin • Draw the pattern of the animal’s skin behind the leaf pattern
Finishing Off • Lightly colour the leaves in different shades of green • Colour the animal skin pattern • Colour the background • Use pastel or texta to add veins to the leaves and outline everything
