Physical Science Week 4 Physical Properties
Monday Warm Up (27) • If you were to describe an orange to someone who had never seen an orange, what would you tell the person?
Secret Bags – 20 questions • Try to figure out what is in the bag. One person looks in bag. The other person asks questions about the object without looking at it and determines what it is. • Switch roles and repeat.
Cornell Notes – Physical PropertiesIAN page 29 • A physical property of matter can be observed or measured without changing the matter’s identity.
Physical Properties • Color • Volume • Magnetism • Conductivity • Flexibility • State of mater • Density • Specific gravity • Solubility • Ductility • Malleability • Hardness • Odor • pH • Melting point • Boiling point
Density • Density = mass/volume
Thermal Conductivity • The rate a substance transfers heat.
State • Solid • Liquid • Gas • Plasma
Solubility • The ability of a substance to dissolve in another substance.
Tuesday Warm Up (page 27) • You have two objects, both about the size of an orange. Object A has a mass of 1,487 g and object B has a mass of 848 g. Which object has greater density? Explain.
Wednesday Warm Up (27) • Describe something that is a good thermal conductor and something that is a poor thermal conductor. • How are they alike? • How are they different?
Density Laboratory Gizmo • www.explorelearning.com • Complete the worksheet then take the assessment for a grade.
Thursday Warm Up (27) • Why would knowing the density of different substances be helpful in identifying matter?
Density via Comparison Gizmo • www.explorelearning.com • Complete the worksheet then take the assessment.
Friday Warm Up (27) • What is the density of an object whose mass is 25 g and whose volume is 10 cm3?
