ESRI stands for Environmental Systems Research Institute Started in 1969 by Jack and Laura Dangermond who designed a system for landuse analysis ESRI still promotes environmental sustainability and designed its US Headquarters campus to avoid interfering with any trees on the site The ESRI International User Conference now attracts over 14,000 delegates ESRI provided GIS support for 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina relief efforts
