Benefits of the Study Abroad Fair • Make students aware of study abroad opportunities • Student-led promotion and information • Raise profile of the Study Abroad Team/International Office • Opportunity to invite staff • Meet institutional internationalisation goals • Provide information and advice to interested students about academic and practical aspects of the exchange • Working with the Students’ Union • Working with student societies

Nottingham Statistics 2009-10 Total Student Population: 32,044 • Undergraduate Student Population: 23,401 (73%) • Postgraduate Student Population: 7,274 (23%) Mobility numbers: • Approx Inward Mobility Numbers: 1156 • Approx Outward Mobility Numbers: 851 Total number of agreements: ~350 • Erasmus agreements: ~260 • International exchange agreements: ~85 • University target of 25% of UG students having had an overseas study abroad experience by 2012 • Current estimate: 17%

Nottingham Context • Predominantly undergraduate opportunities - 4 year degrees with a compulsory year abroad • 3 year degrees with an optional year abroad • School Exchange with a year abroad • Integrated periods of study within a 3 year UG or 1 year PG degree • Summer Schools (non-credit bearing)

Edinburgh Statistics • 26,000 students (around 18,000 at undergraduate level) • Circa 600 students study abroad on formal exchanges each year (3+% of UG population) • 2 institutional programmes – ERASMUS exchange (175 partners) and the International Exchange (60) • Small number of departmental links

  6. Edinburgh Context • Four year degrees • Students participating in the 3rd of 4 years. • All international exchanges are full-year only • Erasmus exchanges are mainly full-year, with some part-year • Starting to promote summer schools

  7. Northumbria Statistics • 32,000 students taught on campus, of which 18,000 are UG • Roughly 3,500 international students • Total mobility of 95 students (0.5% of UG) • Split across Erasmus and International – operated by separate departments

  8. Northumbria Context • Pre-empted Internationalisation strategy by pushing growth in mobility • Majority is full-year, but increasing levels of semester-long. • Concentrated in two (out of eight) schools • Large growth in interest in summer
