  1. Joy Comes in the Morning Psalm 30:1-5

  2. Psalm 30:1-5 1 I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up, and have not let my foes rejoice over me. 2 O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You have healed me. 3 O Lord, You have brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. 4 Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. 5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

  3. Joy Comes in Forgiveness • David’s joy here has its source in being forgiven of sin by numbering men (2 Sam. 24; 1 Chr. 21) • 2 Sam. 24:17 David confessed guilty & sought mercy • 1 Chron. 22:1 Sacrifice to God - dedicated temple site • Forgiveness of our sins lays foundation for our true joy as well • Heb. 4:12 • Prov. 13:15 • Acts 16:34 • Relief from guilt of sin only part of the joy • Joy also comes from unexpected effects on cause

  4. Joy Comes in Obeying God • David commanded to build altar & obeyed • 2 Sam. 24:18f David bought land to build altar • 1 Chron. 21:28 Offering gave thanks for God’s mercy • 1 Chron. 22:1David dedicated place for altar of temple • Obeying God brings joy to the obedient • Heb. 5:8-9 • Heb. 12:2 • Psa. 126:5 • Jer. 15:16 • 1 Pet. 1:6-8 • Note that joy comes after tears found in obeying

  5. Joy Comes in Seeing Fruit of Labor • Though David unable to physically see fruit of his labor in temple, he provided for it by joy of faith • We have joy seeing fruit of spiritual labor in Christ • 2 Cor. 11:23-33 • Phil. 4:1 • 3 Jn. 3-4 • Physical work has elements of hardship, but real joy of work is found in productive accomplishment • Spiritual work is the same way • When we seek instant gratification (joy) in all our efforts, we rob self of joy that comes with fruit

  6. Final Morning of Joy Comes in Heaven • All earthly joy will be eclipsed by the joy of heaven • 2 Cor. 5:6-9 • Rev. 21:4 • Rev. 22:5 • Do you have that hope of joy? • Are you in weeping that comes from sin & its effects? • A morning of joy is ready for you if you will obey the Lord
