  2. Program Overview – 2007- 2011 • NRC Education Grant Program: ~$20M/year - Scholarships and Fellowships - Trade/Community College Scholarships - Faculty Development - Curriculum Development

  3. NRC Grant Programs Scholarships • Two years • Maximum of $10,000 per student per year; awarded to institution ($200,000) • Supports approximately 200 students each year • No new awards in FY 2011; prior-year awards funded through completion

  4. NRC Grant Programs Fellowships • Four years • Maximum of $50,000 per student per year; awarded to institution ($400,000) • Supports approximately 28-56 students • No new awards in FY 2011; prior-year awards funded through completion

  5. NRC Grant Programs Trade and Community College Scholarships • One year • Maximum of $10,000 per student; awarded to institution ($150,000) • Supports approximately 285 students each year • No new awards in FY 2011; prior-year awards funded through completion

  6. NRC Grant Programs Faculty Development (Integrated University Program coordinated with DOE and NNSA) • Three years • NRC maximum of $150,000 per year; awarded to institution ($450,000) • Institution match of up to $50,000 per year • 12 awards for FY 2011 • $5.0 M

  7. NRC Grant Programs Curriculum Development • Average award is ~ $140,000 over two years • 32 awards for FY 2011 • $4.6M

  8. NRC Service Agreement • Each scholarship and fellowship recipient must maintain minimum required GPA, as established by the NRC, and serve 6 months in nuclear-related employment for each year of academic support. • Failure to comply with the agreement may trigger repayment from recipient • Service agreement is in the process of being modified to be less restrictive

  9. Plans for FY 2012 • IUP funding is uncertain • Faculty Development and Curriculum Development Funding Opportunity Announcements were posted to www.grants.gov July 22, 2011 • Applications due September 22, 2011 • Peer reviews will occur late fall • Anticipated award dates March/April 2012

  10. Significant Developments • Support over 500 students annually • Since 2007, support 121 institutions in 36 states, DC and Puerto Rico • Encourage leveraging and partnering

  11. Summary • The NRC grant program has: - Assisted in the development of a well-trained workforce critical to the continued safe operation of nuclear facilities - Fostered excellent working relationships with educational institutions
