Life’s Troubles • Aging (Psalm 88:3; 71:9) • Economic hardships (Psalm 109:16) • Persecution (2 Thessalonians 1:4-6) • Loss of a loved-one (John 11:33-35) • Confrontations or contradictions of our beliefs (Acts 15:24; Galatians 1:7) • Fear or Lack of understanding (Matthew 14:26; 2 Thessalonians 2:2)

  3. Life’s Troubles • How do people deal with troubles? • Human philosophies suggest differing methods: • Stoics: refuse to recognize them • despair; suicide • Epicureans: drown troubles in pleasure • more troubles • Jesus has the solution! He offers peace! (John 14:27)

  4. Jesus Knows Our Troubles Jesus’ divine prescription for troubled hearts (John 14:1-4) • “Believe in God … in me” TRUST • “My father’s house…” HEAVEN • “I will come again…” REUNION • “You know the way…” CERTAINTY

  5. “Believe in God” -- TRUST • Trust that the Father and the Son are in control (Psalm 27:13) • Trust that the Father and the Son are doing what is best: The Lord can use your troubles to… • CLEANSE YOU, Proverbs 20:30 • INSPECT YOU, James 1:2-3 • CORRECT YOU, Psalm 119:71-72 • PROTECT YOU, Genesis 50:20 • PERFECT YOU, Romans 5:3-4

  6. “Believe in God” -- TRUST Trust that the Father and the Son will aid and supply you (Hebrews 4:16; Rom. 8:32) Trust that the Father and the Son will not forsake you (Hebrews 13:5)

  7. “My Father’s House” -- HEAVEN • Heaven is prepared for us (Hebrews 11:16) • Heaven is our home, not this world (Philippians 3:20) • Heaven will hold no troubles for us (Revelation 21:3-7)

  8. “I will come again” -- REUNION “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18)

  9. “You Know the Way” -- CERTAINTY • Certain we know the way of truth (John 8:32) • Certain we know the way to the Father (John 14:6) • Certain we know that we have eternal life (1 John 5:13)

  10. Jesus offers peace -- Like a bridge over a troubled sea “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” -- John 14:27
