How it was made • The original recipe is closely guarded, but basically consists of anchovies layered in brine, tamarinds in molasses, garlic in vinegar, chilies, cloves, shallots, and sugar. • After sitting for two years with periodic stirrings, the mixture is sifted of the solids, and bottled.
How is it used? • It is used to marinate meat • It is an ingredient in sauces, dressings, and toppings • It costs $5.99 for a 10 oz bottle • It’s also used in soups, stews, and meatloaf
Fun Facts • Worcestershire sauce was wrapped in paper to protect the bottle during shipping. Now the paper is a trademark for the Lea & Perrins Co. • The formula in Great Britain is slightly different than the formula in the US • The first batch was made in 1838 • Some people collect old Worcestershire sauce bottles
