CF Inner Cylinder Apertures on Outer cylinder to permit services exit 8 support bars constrain disks Inner cylinder with 4 different diameters to constrain disks and sustain petals Master disk supports entire structure
CFRP-KOREX Disks 1.- Master Disk + Support bars + Inner cylinder 2.- Disks are assembled into the structure.
Petals: Sensors Overlap Rout: 11mm Overlap angle: 12mrad ATLAS PROJECT DOC No: Utopia V1.0 N.P. Hessey Rin: 4mm
Disks: Sensors Overlap Y Rin: 4mm Disk rotation is not allowed by this design X Overlap angle: 12mrad (as example) Disk could be reflected 180º (plane XY) No Disk overlap; symmetry is maintained by sensors on both petal sides on every Disk and therefore Petals are reduced 11mm at Outer radius. With Disk overlap symmetry is maintained by only sensors on one Petal side on every Disk. Rout: 11mm 11.25º 11.25º
Services Connections 2D-Layout: conflictive area NO MANIFOLDING IS CONSIDERED CONNECTION POSSIBLE? IF NOT DIF. PIPES PER DISK 1.4m
Service channels: preliminar 3D Layout Very preliminar 3D layout. It is required to understand connectors first.
Services & Petals Mass Estimation • Services estimation includes: • Opto fibers • HV cabling • LV cabling • Inlet and Outlet capillaries • DCS • Al service channel
Conclusions • All dimensions have to be confirmed with FEA. The area between the 1 disk (closest to the interaction point) and the pixel disks is already a problem with this new layout. Also the distance between disk 1 and 2 difficulties petal insertion. • This design allows Petals back sensors to be rotated (ᶲ 12mrad: 11mm overlap at outer radius “ATLAS Doc. Utopia V1 N.P. Hessey”). This design does not allow Rotating Disks, an additional overlap of 11mm at outer radius could be achieved by reflecting the Disks about the plane XY. If this second overlap is not so determinant then Petals can be reduced 11mm at outer radius. • Once all services are installed, Petal insertion is not possible for the 4 rows (20/160 petals) of petals close to the lateral supports. Next thing to do will be to understand properly which connectors can be used for the piping services and develop a full 3D services layout taking into consideration also cabling concerns. It would be interesting to determine the stress induced by all these services over the petals and Disks because of the reduced space left to fit them all. • As the distance from first to last disk is about 1,4m. No manifolding has being considered for services estimation over the envelope area. If manifolding is required and it is also required between 1 and 1,5m from petals connections to manifold because of pressure concerns; manifold connections should be placed on area 3 on next slide to allow petal insertion.
