What He Did and How Did He Do It? • Born on January 1, 1900 in Yaotsu, Gifu, Japan • He was the consul at the Japanese Embassy in Lithuania • Saved around 6,000 Jews • He hand wrote thousands of visas against orders for all of the Jews • Died on July 31, 1986
What He Did and How Did He Do It?Continued • After he came back to Japan his family was dishonored. • Chiune was later honored in Israel with a Righteous Among the Nations. • In Lithuania there is a museum in his honor. • After the war the people of Yaotsu built him the Chiune Sugihara Memorial in his honor.
