Introduction: BOAO(博鰲亞洲論壇) *What: Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) is a non- governmental, not-for-profit international organisation. *When:The organisation was established in February 2001 and it held its first meeting in April, 2002. *Where: Its fixed address is in Boao,Hainan, China. Its Secretariat is based in Beijing. *How:The founding of Boao Forum for Asia was driven by China and founded by 26 countries.

  3. *Who: 26 States, including Australia、Republic of Bangladesh (孟加拉)、China、Cambodia (柬埔寨)、Brunei (汶萊)、India、Indonesia、Japan、Iran、Kazakhstan (哈薩克斯坦共和國)、Kyrgyzstan (吉爾吉斯共和國)、Laos (寮國)、Malaysia、Mongolia (蒙古)、Burma (緬甸)、Nepal (尼泊爾)、Pakistan (巴基斯坦)、Philippine、South Korea、Singapore、Sri Lanka (斯里蘭卡)、Tajikistan (塔吉克斯坦共和國)、Thailand、Turkmenistan (土庫曼斯坦共和國)、Uzbekistan (烏茲別克斯坦共和國)and Vietnam.

  4. *Topics of Discussion for the Forum: 2002-2003:Issues related to Asia, such as China’s entry to the WTO; Southeast Asia’s economic crisis in the 1990s. 2004: The geopolitical strategy of China’s peaceful rise. 2005: The challenge of world economic growth; the progress of internationalisation of Asian enterprises; the new role for organising Asia; Enterprises Management.

  5. 2006: The New Opportunities of Asia: Driving Growth to the Next Level China’s banking system; Asian financial integration; international energy market; the next IT revolution, etc. 2007 Topic: Asia Searching for Win-Win Evolution of the Asian economic community; China’s macroeconomic situation; Asian global enterprises, etc. 2008 Topic: Green Asia-Moving Towards Win-Win Through Changes Asia in the next 10 years; Green energy; Climate change; 30 years of China’s reform and open door policy; subprime crisis and impact on the world economy.

Class Discussion: Due to international reality and the reason of China, it is pretty difficult for Taiwan to join many international organisations, do you agree that Taiwan should continue to spend money and time to join these organisations? Or do you have any methods to resolve this problem, for example, just being isolated from the world, or what? Please discuss with your friends and express your views and opinions!
