  4. The Perfect Ghost by Linda Barnes • New direction for Barnes who is known for her Carlotta Carlyle series • Protagonist is a ghost biographer • Builds slowly to a nice twisty conclusion

  5. Talking to the Dead by Harry Bingham • One of the few apt comparisons of a protagonist to LisbethSalander • Police procedural, first in series set in Cardiff, Wales

  6. The Dangerous Edge of Things by Tina Whittle • Set in Atlanta • Good amateur detective, Tai Randolph who has inherited her uncle’s gun/civil war memorabilia store

  7. The Survivor by Gregg Hurwitz • Nominated by ITW for Best Hardcover thriller • Page-turner that is also emotional and touching

  8. Mr. Churchill’s Secretary by Susan EliaMacNeal • Nominated for a Best First Novel Edgar • Young American woman who wants to be a codebreaker in WWII London

  9. Crossbones Yard by Kate Rhodes • Debut novel strong on atmosphere and suspense • Protagonist is a psychologist in London with lots of her own emotional baggage
