Drifting Buoy Co-operation Panel (1985) • Rationale: • More reliance on autonomous ocean instrumentation (e.g drifters) to replace OWS fleet • Drifter data quality, quantity and timeliness all poor • reasons not clear • drifter reputation in severe decline • Oceanographers do not put drifter data on GTS • Recommendations and resolutions passed: • Absolutely no effect on the data!! • Raise funds to appoint Technical Co-ordinator OCO Review 2005
