  2. While technology is used to create a better life for all, others use it to take advantage and deceive people. Scammers have now evolved from being in the streets to inhabiting the online community. They are tricky, sneaky, and deceitful. Email accounts are not an exception to be the platform of scammers to do their dirty business. Even though you can flag them as “spam messages”, many emails scams can manage to still pass through and continue to deceive people. Everyone can be a victim so being vigilant is what you need to be protected. In an occurrence that you may encounter a suspicious email, here are some signs you should know if that email is fake or not.

  3. Incorrect URL This can be the most obvious sign that it is a fake email. Scammers use fake sites so that they can steal personal information in your email account. If you notice that the URL is a bit weird, might be a good sign that the site is fake and not to be trusted. You can check if the said URL is legit by looking it in Google or Yahoo. If the result of the URL does not match in the email you have received, there’s a higher chance that it is a scam.

  4. Requesting for Confidential details If the email is asking for your PIN or card information, don’t ever trust it. Banks do not ask confidential information online so be aware. Also, be suspicious of emails requesting you Social Security number or other sensitive information.

  5. Use of Public Internet Email Accounts Checking the domain of the email is one way to check if it is legit. Reputable and established companies and bank do not use Gmail, Yahoo!, or Hotmail as their email accounts. So the next time that you will encounter this, report it as spam.

  6. The Content is Full of Misspelled Words and Grammatical Errors If half of the content is full of this kind of problem, it is a clear sign that the email is definitely a scam. Do not be so naïve if you see especially when it the email represents a reputable company. Do not waste your time to test email address that has this same dilemma.
