About John Will Elementary School • John Will was established in 1965. • The student-teacher ratio is approximately 19 - 1. • Demographics at John Will consists of 93% African-Americans, 5% Asian/Hispanic, and 2% Caucasian. The student body population consists of 58% male and 42% female. • Staff of John Will Elementary School consists of the principal, 31 homeroom teachers, four special education teachers, one ESL teacher, a full-time counselor, a shared assistant principal, a media specialist, a physical education teacher, a reading intervention teacher who serves as title I facilitator, several paraprofessionals, office staff, cafeteria staff and custodians.

John Will Elementary School will increase STAR reading proficiency levels (LSI/Goal 5).
Measurable Objective Goal #5 • A 2% increase of Third, Fourth and Fifth grade students will demonstrate a proficiency (at or above benchmark) moving from 15% (Fall 2016) to 17% (Spring 2017) in the 50th to 74th percentile in Reading by 06/02/2017 as measured by STAR reading reports.

Strategy Activities Close Reading Tier II & Tier III Instruction Differentiated Instruction Reteaching & Retesting Sonday System Coaching & Modeling PST STAR Walls • Response to Instruction - All regular and special education teachers will utilize RTI and the K-3 literacy framework to implement a systematic approach to instruction using direct and explicit instruction, progress monitoring, formative assessments, and student interventions.

Measurable Objective • Demonstrate a proficiency by students in grades K-5 making a 4% increase in reading, scoring at or above benchmark by 06/02/2017 as measured by DIBELS, STAR, EQT, and ACT/ASPIRE, quarterly.

Strategy Activities Tier II & Tier III Instruction Close Reading Reteaching & Retesting Extended Day Tutoring Walls to Success • Reading Comprehension - All teachers in grades K-5 will prepare students to be college and career ready. This will be implemented by providing direct explicit instruction, following the Cycle of Instruction, and by using Common Core Standards to engage students in real world reading activities.

Measurable Objective • A 2% increase of Kindergarten, First and Second grade students will demonstrate a proficiency in letter naming fluency, phoneme segmentation fluency, nonsense word fluency and/or oral reading fluency in Reading by 05/19/2017 as measured by DIBELS.

Strategies Activities DIBELS Sonday System Multiple Intelligence Surveys College Week • Strategy 1:Data Meetings - Teachers will be provided with professional development, during data meetings, to review DIBELS data and to discuss how to help students meet benchmarks. • Strategy 2: Guidance & Counseling - Students will complete modified multiple intelligence surveys to explore their own, personal learning style and complete a mock college application to peek their interest in furthering their education during "college week".

Measurable Objective • Demonstrate a behavior by increasing student attendance by 06/01/2017 as measured by student attendance through iNow.

Strategies Activities Attendance Celebrations Awards & Recognition Communication • Strategy 1: Increase Student Attendance - All teachers will recognize and award students who have perfect attendance. • Strategy 2: Parent Involvement - Communications will be sent to parents through monthly newsletters, progress reports, school website, school marquee, Twitter, and Facebook.
John Will Elementary School shall provide digital tools and resources to all educators and students.
Measurable Objective • A 4% increase of Third, Fourth and Fifth grade students will increase student growth and demonstrate proficiency in Mathematics by 06/02/2017 as measured by STAR Math (3 sessions) and ACT Aspire (Summative).
John Will Elementary School shall provide digital tools and resources to all educators and students. Strategy Activity During data meetings, teachers were taught how to analyze STAR Math data in order to create groups for small group instruction. • Reteaching and Retesting - Teachers will use data from STAR Math to determine which standards have not been mastered. Teachers will use small group instruction, Tier II and Tier III interventions, and reteaching and retesting as aligned with Will's action plan.
