Who is in it? • >60,000 members • Largest organization of pediatricians in the US • Over 68% of Board Certified Pediatricians are members of the AAP • 42% of members are < 40 years old • 55% of members are female • 98% of residents are AAP members
What is its structure? The District Chair sits on the Board of Directors for the AAP.

A Glance of each one Chapters: • Represent the voice of local members and pediatric issues and activate national AAP priorities at the grassroots level • Offer advocacy, leadership, education and networking opportunities to members • NY state: • 1: upstate NY • 2: Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties • 3: Bronx, Staten Island, Manhattan, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange and Dutchess counties
Sections & Councils • Residents can join select sections/councils based on specialty, areas of interest, or stage in life or career: • Online list: http://www.aap.org/sections/shome.htm • Cost per section/council membership of $10-15 • Automatic FREE membership in Section on Medical Students, Residents and Fellowship Trainees (SOMSRFT) • SOMSRFT has liaisons to over 20 sections and councils • Any resident member can apply for a 2-year liaison term • Responsibilities include participating in conference calls, attending meetings, and writing up semi-annual reports • Application deadline is November 1st • Applications can be found online in July
