CDCR & BEP Permit • Hours of Operation – Friday, Saturday, Sunday and all major holidays 8am – 4pm (Exhibit C) • Beverages – Sodas, juices, iced tea canned/bottled; bottled water; flavored water; sports drinks, orange juice, ½ pint and pint. A minimum of six (6) selections of canned/bottled beverages must be “diet”, caffeine free or sugar free to meet the dietary requirements of the customer. (Attachment C)
Permit Continued • Confections and Snacks – Potato chips, a minimum of 12 flavors/types, four (4) of which must be available in low fat or baked varieties; pretzels; nuts; trail mix; granola; popcorn; beef jerky. (Attachment C) • To provide paying customers all necessary expendable items and consumable supplies, such as, but not limited to, paper cups, paper plates, napkins, utensils (knives, forks, spoons), to-go containers, condiments, and other customary items required for the sale and consumption of items sold in the FACILITY. (Exhibit D)
Permit Continued • BEP Responsibility • To provide the necessary maintenance, repair and replacement of all BEP owned equipment as listed in Attachment B (Exhibit D) • Public and Employee Relations which shall include plans for: • A. Customer Feedback • D. Refund Policy • (Attachment I)
Operating Hours Concerns • Machines are not stocked when visitors arrive in morning. • The vendor does not arrive into the visiting rooms before 10:00 and is not in the rooms past 2:00. • On March 23, there was no water or sugar-free drinks available until after 10:30am • On March 30, frozen machine was partially stocked. On March 31, it was empty (not restocked)
Nutritional Quality Concerns • Almost half of the beverages are sugared and/or caffeinated. Not enough milk/water/diet sodas provided. • On prepared food, there are no nutrition labels or expiration dates. • Chips/Nuts/Trail Mix needs to have more low-fat/baked alternatives.
Utensils and Condiments Concerns • The vendor has stopped supplying condiments to visitors. • On March 9, the vendor began selling condiments in the machines. • On March 23, the condiments had been removed from the machine, but there were none available for paying customers. • On March 30 -31, condiments were still not provided. • Vendor has stated that if he is forced to supply condiments, he will raise prices.
Maintenance of Equipment Concerns • Frozen food machine was out of service for over a month. It is back in service now. • March 23-24 – One beverage machine was inoperable, reducing beverages by 50%. • This machine was stocked by vendor employees while inoperable. • What is the procedure for reporting and repair?
Customer Service Concerns • Has a Customer Satisfaction survey been done on this vendor at all Institutions where he does business? • Is there a written refund policy for the vendor? • A copy should be posted on the IFC Bulletin Board and in each visiting room.
Prices • How should IFC address price concerns from visitors? • Allowed in visiting per DOM: • Fifty Dollars per adult visitor and twenty dollars per minor visitor, coin or one dollar bills only.

Next Steps • Per Permit, BEP addresses concerns with Vendor • BEP reports back to VSP Administration and IFC • VSP IFC will continue to gather and tally visitors concerns • Follow up meeting with BEP at next IFC meeting June 7, 2013 for review of Vendor performance.
