Young enthusiasm enthralling our hopes and spirit LakhanGiridharVaikhas, Age – 11years, Std - 4th Comes from migrant community and was studying in our NFE class for a year in 2008 before moving to the regular class in 2009. He goes to school regularly inspite of the distance of 3km and the difficult circumstances that he has grown up in. ReshmaSopanPawar, Age – 15years, Std - 8th Her parents are laborers and she has three sisters and two brothers. The environment in the vasti is not conducive for girls to go to school. It is a known practice that girls are not allowed to continue with their schooling after reaching puberty. Reshma’s parents were also pressurized to ask this girl to drop out for this reason. Akshardeep teachers kept going to her mother to reassure her and to change her mind set. They encouraged Reshma and helped her through the difficulties in school. She has succeeded in continuing with her education inspite of all this. Now, she is attending the school regularly. She secured 53% marks in the 7th std. She is a very well-behaved, courteous and friendly girl. SharanappaHanumantKolmanna, Age – 11years, Std - 3rd In 2007-08 our teacher LaxmiGalphade found him moving around in the vasti. She convinced him to start coming to our NFE class. Thereafter she convinced his parents to put him in school. They had tried to do so but were denied admission as he did not have a birth certificate. Laxmi then took him to school and got him admission in 1ststd after citing the GR which says that all children should get admission irrespective of the fact that they may not have an age certificate. He is now in the 3ststd and is dong very well in school. He wants to become a teacher and teach children like himself who are deprived of basic education.
