Marie Curie Training Site Fast and secure communication http://www.selmer.uib.no/ RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY The University of Bergen offers European doctoral students research training in fast and secure communication for a period of 3-12 months. Internet and mobile communication transactions contain huge amounts of sensitive data including payment systems, e-commerce, medical information etc., which is important to prevent from being read and tampered by unauthorised persons. In addition there is also demand for fast and efficient methods to implement error-correcting codes used for obtaining a reliable communication over a communication channel. The training will comprise coding theory and cryptography and the interaction of these fields, and range from taking advanced courses to work on research projects on fast and secure communication supervised by the coding/crypto group at The Selmer Center, Department of Informatics. THE FACILITY The fellows will get access to research facilities, office space, libraries and to a workstation connected through the local network to a high performance supercomputer. The students are also guaranteed accommodation at boarding houses. Those accepted as students at the training site will receive 1200 euro/month(gross) for mobility allowance, and will be refunded round trip cost economy fare. BENEFITS AND RESERCH IMPACT FOR THE FELLOW European doctoral students coming to the training site will benefit from participating in advanced international research on fast and secure communication. This is an area that applies many challenging theoretical methods in mathematics and computer science and is of high practical importance today and will be even more so in the future.
