What is the whole note you ask? The whole note has a beat of four times and four measure. It equals one whole note. Look at the picture above. iPlay
What is the half note? The half note is played for half of the duration of a whole note. The half note is displayed as 2 beats and 4 measures. Look at the picture above. iPlay
What is the quarter note? The quarter note is played for a quarter duration of the time. Quarter notes have a beat of 1 times and 4 measures iPlay
And at some point we rest Zzzzzzz In a piece of music there comes a rest where the music completely stops. There are 9 rests but we will only focus on the one that corresponds with 1 beat of rest and 4 measures the quarter note. iPlay

What is a interval? An interval is the distance between two notes. We will discuss five major intervals that are popular to music • Minor (m) • Major (M) • Perfect (P) • Augmented (A) • Diminished (d) iPlay

What is a minor Often referred to as diminished, the minor note is referred to as the flat note which is one half step. There are four minors. iPlay
What is the major Intervals come from the Major scale. When you raise a diminished minor a half step it becomes a major. iPlay
What is the “Perfect” Interval The “P” represents perfect in the interval and expresses the quality of the interval. The number is the distance between two notes. There are four perfect intervals: 1,4,5,8. iPlay
What is the Augmented interval? If an interval is a half step larger than a perfect or a major interval it is called a augmented interval. There are 5 augmented intervals. iPlay
What is the Diminished interval? If an interval is a half step smaller than a perfect or minor interval it is called the diminished interval iPlay

There are four major voice parts to singing • Soprano • Alto • Tenor • Bass iSing
The soprano takes the highest part in a piece of music which is in the falsetto voice. Usually this part in a piece of music is the melody. What singer do you think has a soprano voice? iSing
The alto part is he second highest voice part in the 4 part chorus. The alto is usually known to be flexible with the other three voice parts meaning the alto can take the role of any of the three voice parts. What famous artist do you think has a alto voice? iSing
The tenor voice is particularly the male voice part in the chorus which is the highest male part. The tenor usually has the melody in the male part. What famous artist do you think has a tenor voice? iSing
The bass possess the lowest vocal range of all voice types. It is the lowest demanded voice part and usually shakes the sound of the chorus making it sound more powerful and strong. What famous artist do you think has a bass voice? iSing
There are several different categories of dynamics but we will only focus on 4 specific ones in this lesson iSing
Forte is the Loud of a voice part Fortissimo is the very LOUD of a voice part iSing
Choral instructors often use the term “crescendo” and “decrescendo” to signify the uniqueness of the voice. iSing
Crescendo is the increase in sound from a particular singer or piece of music Decrescendo is the decrease in sound from a particular singer or piece of music iSing
