  1. Big Science Questions • Fire-climate interactions, forcings • High-resolution characterization of fire energy • Global characterization of historic, current, and potential future fire regimes • Seasonal changes in fire properties • fuel moisture, time-varying emissions factors, • Climate, land use, fire and lagged effects • Insects, snowpack, rainfall anomalies, suppression • Emphasis on post-fire effects • Succession, invasives, erosion, future disturbance

  2. Actions to address current opportunities: • End-to-end field campaign • Wildland fire use (WFU) • Capture pre-fire, active, post-fire environments for cal/val, improved remote sensing for fire science • Testbed for Hyspiri, Desdyni • Working workshops among fire communities (land, atmosphere, modeling) • ROSES-based meeting suggestions • Emphasis on coordination (midterm and post-project synthesis, data sharing)

  3. Coordination • Connecting top-down, Bottom up approaches • Dedicated data center • FRAMES • Planned instruments have fire applications, future mission discussion needed • Regional and global scale studies (within NASA) • Fire science program • Inter-agency efforts to leverage existing and near-term efforts • Operational data availability
