  5. SDP 2013/14 SDP 2013/14 Review See sheet on desk. Focus on middle white column on the four pages as this is a summary of what has occurred for this academic year alongside the SDP for next year. Picked out a few relevant parts of it.

  6. New Curriculum • New curriculum begun in years 3 & 4 in September 2013. • September 2014 will see implementation in years 1 & 5. • Decision on year 2 needed as a school as Abacus material for this year group being removed from on-line in July 2014 and new material only available although year 2 don’t need to begin new curriculum until September 2015. • Year 6 to begin new curriculum in September 2015.

  7. Abacus Abacus have replaced all books purchased since January 2010 with new books to match their new curriculum planning. Year 3, 4 & 5 have had new material as a result. Extra books have been purchased to supplement these books in order that there are enough books for the year group.

  8. Other year groups • No other year groups will have books for free. Requested extra finance & this was granted to purchase workbooks for years 1 & 2 and text books for year 6. • Abacus are not planning to publish a replacement for Abacus 7 – implication is that top end of year 6 will not have sufficient material to stretch them – possibilities being discussed. Abacus say new curriculum is sufficiently challenging but Year 4 A Set are already using year 5 material whilst using new curriculum planning – need to monitor.

  9. Abacus Training • Year 3 & 4 staff had a morning training from an Abacus rep in July 2013 on the new curriculum. Under the new curriculum, Abacus Evolve has been replaced by I Planner. • June 2014 – 2 staff from this phase will train staff who will be in year 1 & 5 in September 2014 on the I Planner and the new curriculum.

  10. Performance Management • First time this year TAs in both key stages have taken on Maths as part of their PM cycle. Liaison between key stages via Maths faculty and TAs has occurred as a result of PM targets. Positive discussions so far with relevant staff which is pleasing.

  11. Maths Focus Week • November 2013 Shape and Space Focus Week. • Maths faculty as a team decided on theme after discussions around misconceptions regarding shape and space. • Range of activities across school including 2D, 3D, symmetry, tessellation • No assembly to celebrate the week due to photographs – arrange it for different week next year as whole school celebration was effective in raising awareness of work across whole school.

  12. Intervention Groups • Following return to work of LO, JB out of class every Wednesday and Thursday morning and alternate Monday mornings. • Data analysis, Pupil Premium register, discussions with phase leaders, class teachers and TA’s led to groups of children being selected. • Spring 1 Year 6 - 4 level 3C & 4 level 3A pupils, 7 PP. Aim to raise to level 4B/C for SATs in May. Year 4 – 7 level 2A and 1 level 3C pupils, 2PP. Aim to raise level to 3B/C for end of year assessment. • Year 1 – 8 level 1C pupils, 5 PP. Establish number bonds, teen numbers, confidence and competency in number on pupils just onto National curriculum levels. Aim to raise level to 1B.

  13. Intervention – Spring 2 • Slight change in year 6 support – JB will work in class with both TA’s and the majority of set with JB focussing on Intervention group where possible and TA’s taking on group above and below IG. DF will take top 9 pupils out for these sessions to stretch these pupils with aim of reaching 5C’s – this will happen until SATS in May. • Year 4 – continuation of this group until Easter 2014. • Year 2 will replace year 1 cohort in order to boost levels pre SATs for year 2.

  14. Wimbledon Quiz • How many matches did Andy Murray play and win to become Wimbledon champion last year? • How many games of tennis did this involve?

  15. Where next? • SDP 2014/15 • See sheet and focus on end columns – colour coded into sections. • New initiatives for next academic year:

  16. SDP 2014/15 • Monitoring of Maths across the school with half termly meetings with Phase leaders to identify strengths and weaknesses and intervene quickly and effectively. • As part of my NPQML course, use work from this to move Maths to an Ofsted grade of Outstanding through work with individuals in school.

  17. SDP 2014/15 • Assessment – new arrangements in the pipeline – liaise closely with SLT & Assessment faculty. • Develop PM for TAs further in Maths. • Monitoring and Evaluation schedule – use the half term schedule effectively across the year to monitor Maths.

  18. SDP 2014/15 cont • Maths parents meetings – keeping parents informed and up to date as pupils progress through the school. • Develop Maths Focus Week – Number topic next year. • Introduction of the new curriculum for years 1 & 5 and continue to develop it in years 3 & 4.

  19. Wembley Quiz • If 84,000 tickets were sold for the One Direction concert at Wembley last night and each fan was charged £55.50 then how much was taken on the gate last night? • They played Friday, Saturday and Sunday also – how much was taken over just the three nights of this tour?
