Folsom Dam Joint Federal Project (JFP) • Multi-agency effort under the CVFPB approved Folsom Dam Modifications Project • Design and construct the JFP to meet Federal, State, and local objectives for Folsom Dam • Improves the ability to manage large flood events by lowering the spillway elevation to allow more water to be released earlier in a flood event

Staff Recommendation Staff recommends that the Board approve Resolution No. 11-30 (Attachment C) and: • Approve Amendment No. 3 (Attachment A) to the PCA authorizing the acceleration of funds to the USACE in an amount not to exceed the current estimate of the non-federal sponsors’ required cash contribution for the JFP, less any funds previously contributed, for the immediate use by the USACE and; • Delegate to the Board President the authority to execute the amendment in substantially the form attached hereto.

What is the JFP? • A new auxiliary spillway adjacent to the main dam, including: • approach channel • control structure • spillway chute • stilling basin • Improves the ability to manage large flood events by lowering the spillway elevation to allow more water to be released earlier in a flood event.

  12. Background JFP will work in conjunction with upgraded levees downstream to achieve a 200-year level of protection.
