  2. The first commercial CCS, Classtalk, was introduced in 1992 • It was first used by a handful of Physics Education Researchers committed to Educational Reform. • Although it was difficult to implement, maintain, and very expensive to purchase, the feeling among professors that it was a useful tool was almost unanimous. • Student response to the system was overwhelmingly positive.

  4. CCS Adoption Patterns in Higher Education • There are currently well over 1000 Colleges and Universities using a CCS technology in this country alone. • I am aware of only 8 that have been able involve more than 2500 students for 3 consecutive semesters. …What has put UT in this category?

  5. A Local Support Structure • The experience and leadership of the local faculty coordinator. Enthusiasm of instructors and the support of the dean’s office of College of Natural Science and beyond. • Their philosophy which says, “with some advanced thinking about the pedagogy, an one hour workshop, and a few hours of practice, anyone can walk in and do it!” • A University that values teaching excellence and a culture that promotes the sharing of experience in that area.
