  3. Heart is Revealed by Words and Deeds (Matt. 12:33-37) • A tree is known by its fruit (Prov. 23:7) • Identity and acceptability • Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (12:34)

  4. Heart Revealed by Words and Deeds (Matt. 12:33-37) • First clean the inside (heart), Ezekiel 18:30-31; James 4:8 • Right place to start, Rom. 12:1-2; Col. 3:2, 5, 8 • Outward “good” that covers up inward corruption is sin, Lk 11:37-41

  5. Heart Revealed by Words and Deeds (Matt. 12:33-37) • First clean the inside (heart), Ezek. 18:30-31; Jas. 4:8 • Otherwise, all “good” is worthless, Matt. 12:34; 1 Cor. 13:1-3 • We must speak from a righteous heart, Psa.37:30-31

  7. Heart Revealed by Words and Deeds (Matt. 12:33-37) • Accountability, 12:36-37 • Idle: Worthless, no good effect, vain • Blasphemy of the Pharisees…Profanity …False teaching, Eph. 4:25, 29, 31; 5:4, 6 • Are you ready to tell Jesus why your heart allows you to speak as you do?

  8. Rejected Signs – Evil Hearts (Matt. 12:38-42) • How we react to His signs shows our heart, 12:38 (16:1, 4) • Continually rejected (12:13-14, 22-24); Jno. 10:24-25; 11:45-47; 12:37-41 • His resurrection, 12:39-40 • Heart is prepared by repentance, 12:41-42

  9. Careful What You Put into Your Heart (Matt. 12:43-45) • Possibility of apostasy is real • Their repentance was temporary and passing, Hos. 6:4-6; Jno. 5:33-35 • Unless repentance replaces sin with good…evil will return! 2 Peter 2:20-22 (Heb. 10:26-29)

  10. Relation with Christ must be first (Matt. 12:46-50) • Formed and kept by doing the will of God, 12:48-50 • Fleshly family does not have precedence, Matthew 10:34-39 • No partiality, 12:47-48 • Fellowship by doing will of God, 12:49-50

  11. We have a choice • What kind of heart we will have • To have fellowship with Jesus we must purify our hearts and… • Believe He is the Christ, 12:40 • Bear good fruit, 12:35 • Do the Father’s will, 12:50
