  3. What should you know about being a 9th grader at Hayden High School ?

  4. Lets Talk Credits • Next August you will start earning credits towards your Alabama High School diploma! • At the end of each semester, you will receive .5 credit for each class you pass with a 60 or higher. Once final grades are posted for the semester, credit will be awarded and your GPA will be calculated. This happens at the end of each semester. • You will need 24 credits to receive your Alabama High School diploma. • Since you have the opportunity to earn 7 or more credits most students graduate with more than 24.

  5. How do I calculate my gpa? • Your GPA is calculated based on semester averages only, NOT report card grades. • Each grading period is 45% of your semester average and your semester exam is 10%.

  6. How do I calculate my gpa? The following explains how to calculate your GPA: • A= 4 Points • B= 3 Points • C= 2 Points • D= 1 Points • F= 0 point Add the points and divide by the number of classes you took that semester. • Students are eligible to graduate with honors based on their GPA. • Honors (3.5-3.7999) • High Honors (3.8-3.999) • Highest Honors (4.0) *** A student does NOT have to take honors, advanced, or AP classes to graduate with honors.***

  7. Considerations • Honors courses will be harder and more demanding. • ALL failures must be made up in credit recovery or summer school. (Both are done after school hours) • Once a student begins the year on an Honors course, he/she must complete the school year in that course. • It would be EXTREMEMLY difficult for a student to begin taking honors courses as a 10th, 11th, or 12th grader.

  8. What do I do if I fail a class? • If you fail a class (semester average below 60), see the counselor immediately. • The counselor will refer you to credit recovery. Credit recovery opportunities are after school and during the summer, each session costs $150.00

  9. What courses will you need to take next year at HHS?

  10. Required courses for all 9th graders: CORE CLASSES: English: (1.0 credit required) • English 9 with Reading • English 9 Honors with Public Speaking Math: (1.0 credit required) • Algebra 1 History: (1.0 credit required) • World History 9 Science 8: (1.0 credit required) • Biology ELECTIVES: • LIFE PE (or athletics) (1.0 credit required) • Career Preparedness A (.5 credit required) • Health (.5 credit required) *If you are in the marching band you must still take 1.0 credit of LIFE PE*

  11. Attendance • Remember we do period attendance at HHS. To get credit for all day you must be present all day. • Students are to come to the library on the day following ANY type of absence (all day, check-in, check-out). • If you check a student in they must still bring a note to the attendance table the next morning. • Any student that fails to bring a note or get an unexcused slip will be called to the office to write a behavior statement.

  12. Clubs/Extra-Curricular Activities • Announcements about activities will be made on the screen in the lunchroom and in the hallways. • They will also be posted to out website. • Please visit www.haydenhigh.net
