Good Stuff from Last year! • 290 – 342 student went to college • 4.3 million in Scholarships 2013 - 2014 to 4.8 million dollar this • Several Parent Night • ACT Parent Night • Open Door Policy took off - Input • Survey Twice a year – More Input • Executive Council – More input • Strengthen Attendance and Waivers – Per your input • Beginning of the Year Teacher Luncheon (Chili's) Workday • Improved Video for Freshmen Registration • We ended the school year well with Graduation at 95% • We ended the school year well with our staff meeting

Our 1st Year - I Observed • Suspended 2 students (Before school started) • Suspended a parent (Before School Started) • Hired 22 employees • We have some great Staff Members! • Examples: Folders at the end of the year • Social Committee Stuff • Most are willing to be honest and give good input ( Not Just Negative input) • Not use to Open Door Policy (This is not a gimmick – I want your input!) • Want to be treated as a professional and respected – This is important! • Some folks wanted change - Some did not! • Technology • Know about the school and the history • School Behaviors need to be monitored by all not just 4 administrators and 15 teachers.

Behavior • Behaviors: • Perception is: We need to be harder on discipline • Fact is: Suspension Rate – Last year : 226 – Year Before: 218 • Myth: Administration is suspending less. • Fact: Just make sure it makes sense and we can defend it • Problem is: I need to change that perceptions - but it cant just be me. • Talking back in the hallway – Not expectable - • Solution: Ask Questions • Solution: Do not wait until the “last straw” to write a referral. Give us a heads up. • Solution: Please do not react with negative behavior • Example of teacher at Coulwood. • Don’t stay mad about a discipline issue for 3 months – complain about it and then tell administration about later!

  17. Runners (They Move the Bus)Energetic, involved in the school, on Duty – Moving the Bus Forward – Worried more about Kids and Whole school’s success instead of personal accomplishments – Lets get it done!They Fix it!NOT Negative!

  18. JoggersThey do the job! They do just enough. Sometimes it is about the kids and them! (good attitude, slight complainers) Will tell Admin the good and badI am fine with the good and Bad!

  19. WalkersDo not like change, Do not like Runners (makes them look bad), Slow and steady, Complain about everything, Points out all the negative in the organization in order to deflect what they are not doing. They connect with new teachers and in order to create a “Environment of Poison”.

  20. RidersThey have Picked up there feet and are dead weight, Don’t care(Examples: Late everyday, leaves at 2:59 and 59 sec., Do not attend in any events and complain with no specifics

New Stuff this year • Co- Department Chairs – To develop more leaders and Provide input on culture. • Mrs. Long is a/n AP • Mrs. Hayward is in Central Services • Common Planning (Dr. Ellis will focus on Academics this year – May request meeting notes) • No Court Case or Redistricting • Academic Announcement during Athletic Events • New Referral System – Better Communications • Freshmen Orientation – Culture and Expectations • Athletic Meeting with students regarding rules and expectations • Master Schedule released in July • Electronic Devices (World News) Next Slide • Accountability – Can’t be 15 teachers and 4 administrators doing everything • Social Committee

  30. New Stuff continued • Emailing Handbooks to students email • Money was cut by 65 percent • No second Security personnel! We ALL have to help with student behavior ….. It can not be 4 administrators and 15 teachers • 10 point Scale

Cell Phones • High School: Students will not use cellular phones or electronic/media devices during instructional time except pursuant to an authorized purpose or as an instructional tool under the guidance and direction of a staff member during a school activity. Students may use cellular phones or electronic/media devices during non-instructional times, including class change and lunch, so long as the use is not disruptive to the school environment and the cellular phone or electronic/media device is used in a safe and responsible manner. The District is not responsible for theft, loss or damage to any electronic devices brought onto school property..

If use of the electronic device results in violation of other policies (including but not limited to school based rules) further discipline may be applied. • Second Offense: Confiscate item and return only to parents. Parent conference required and may include 1 day of in-school suspension, after school detention, or Saturday School. • Third Offense: Confiscate item and return only to parents. Parent conference required and may include 1 day of in-school suspension, after school detention, or Saturday School and cannot bring item to school for remainder of the school year, except as authorized in writing by the school principal

Communication With Parents • Return phone calls within 24-48 hours • Maintain a class website with homework updated weekly • Document all parent contactConfidential information cannot be shared in front of other students by teacher or students • Teachers must “effectively” communicate with parents/guardians to report concerns. • Students should not be making the phone calls home for teachers. Technology • Technology will be mandatory once a month (World News) • Checking emails • Using Chromebooks • Some teachers did not require students use Chomebooks • We are placing them in the hands of students. • Using the Chromebooks instead of paper (Sometimes) $50,000 • Technology article on my desk about technology is not Good in 2015 • Are we going back to Pencil and Paper?

  42. Chromebook Distribution • The week of September 8th -11th the distribution of Chromebooks will start. The process is similar to the Chromebook Assessments Plan in April. • Ms. Tesemma will set up a station in the lower level of each wing and Mrs. Snelson at the upper level. Starting with E-wing( room E100, E101, E102 etc.) • The students will bring Ms. Tesemma their signed forms to receive their Chromebooks(teachers will not collect the forms, as students will hold onto them). • Mrs. Lawwill is going to print out the labels in advanced for the Chromebook, in alpha order to expedite the process.

Chromebook Distribution (Continued) • The administrators will be assigned a wing to communicate to the teachers when the technician is ready for the next class. • The teacher will receive an email in advance outlining a start date for the distribution of Chromebooks. • This process will probably take one day to complete each wing( upper and lower). • Students who do not have a signed form will have to receive their Chromebooks on the makeup day which will be stationed in the Media Center.
